It is the second-highest performance in the industry's history.
See it on page 6The French video game market demonstrated significant resilience and growth in 2025, reaching a total valuation of €5.856 billion. This 2.9% increase represents the second-highest performance in the industry’s history, fueled primarily by an 11% surge in the mobile ecosystem. While console and PC segments maintained stability, mobile gaming solidified its dominance, with free-to-play applications accounting for 94% of that sector's revenue. Although physical software sales experienced a decline, consumer attachment to physical formats remains a notable characteristic of the French market, complementing the steady expansion of digital content and subscription services.
The player base expanded to a record 40.2 million individuals, with adults now constituting 88% of the total demographic. Engagement levels remain high, as 76% of players participate in gaming on a weekly basis, supported by a marked rise in multiplayer activity among Gen Z. Hardware performance was bolstered by the introduction of new ninth-generation console technology, which helped offset a moderate decline in full-game software sales. While in-game spending through microtransactions and downloadable content continues to be a vital revenue stream, it did not fully compensate for the softening of traditional full-game purchases.
Beyond economic metrics, gaming has become a central component of French family life, with 65% of parents engaging in play with their children weekly. This trend is accompanied by a heightened focus on digital safety, as 67% of parents actively supervise gaming habits and utilize technical controls. The widespread adoption of the PEGI age-rating system remains instrumental in these efforts. Industry advocacy, led by the Syndicat des Éditeurs de Logiciels de Loisirs, continues to shape public policy and promote the sector’s cultural influence through strategic initiatives like Paris Games Week, which serves as a primary showcase for innovation and accessibility.
