Software sales accounted for 77 percent of the total market value.
The Italian video game market in 2025 demonstrates significant stability, generating a total turnover of 2.4 billion euros. With a user base of 14.2 million individuals, representing 29 percent of the national population, the industry is primarily propelled by the mobile segment, which accounts for 929 million euros in revenue. Software sales remain the dominant driver of consumer spending, comprising 77 percent of the total market value. Despite this robust performance, the sector’s penetration rate remains below the average observed in leading European markets, indicating potential for further growth.
Digital distribution has become the standard for the industry, accounting for 65 percent of new title sales across console and PC platforms. Within the mobile ecosystem, the freemium model is nearly ubiquitous, generating 97 percent of all mobile-related revenue. Consumer behavior reflects a clear preference for established franchises, such as FC26 and Battlefield, while Steam maintains its position as the primary distribution channel for PC gaming. YouTube serves as the central hub for discovery and industry news, playing a critical role in shaping player engagement.
Weekly gaming time among Italians aged 6 to 75 has climbed to nearly eight hours, though this figure continues to trail the nine-hour average seen in top-tier European markets. Mobile devices represent the most frequently used platform, followed by consoles and PCs. Demographic analysis reveals that gaming activity is most intense among men and the 12 to 17 age cohort. While console gaming currently commands the highest weekly playtime per user, the overall market landscape remains defined by a consistent, albeit developing, integration of interactive entertainment into the daily habits of the Italian population.
