See it on page 4The French video game market has reached a significant milestone in 2025, with a record 40.2 million active players establishing the medium as a central pillar of national culture. The player base is increasingly mature, as adults now account for 88% of participants, while women represent the majority of the 16–30 age demographic. This widespread adoption is characterized by high engagement levels, with regular players dedicating nearly eight hours per week to the hobby. Gaming has evolved into a primary social conduit, fostering intergenerational connections as 75% of parents actively participate in gaming sessions with their children to strengthen family bonds.
Consumer behavior in France remains distinct due to a persistent preference for physical media and in-store purchasing, driven by a desire for tangible ownership and the social experience of retail environments. Younger generations, particularly Gen Z and Alpha, increasingly view gaming as a core component of their personal identity and a legitimate career path. These communities are widely perceived as inclusive, with 86% of players reporting that these digital spaces effectively facilitate the formation of meaningful, real-world friendships.
Safety and responsible consumption remain top priorities within the industry. Awareness of the PEGI rating system is nearly universal, and 67% of parents now actively monitor their children’s gaming habits. While the usage of digital parental control tools remains varied, the industry continues to emphasize safety through robust educational initiatives. Supported by a sophisticated data ecosystem that integrates insights from major market intelligence firms, the French gaming sector maintains a stable trajectory, balancing rapid technological growth with a commitment to community well-being and family-oriented play.
