The study demonstrates the integration of complex physical constraints into a playable digital format for students at Bina Nusantara University International.
This development study explores the design and implementation of game mechanics within a digital sniper simulation prototype. Conducted at Bina Nusantara University International in Jakarta, Indonesia, the project serves as an educational initiative to help students understand how game mechanics function as foundational rules that govern player interaction, environmental challenges, and win-loss conditions. By creating a realistic simulation, the authors demonstrate how technical constraints—specifically gravity and wind—can be integrated into gameplay to provide a challenging, skill-based experience.
The prototype utilizes a 3D environment rendered via WebGL and the Three.js framework, incorporating specific libraries for object loading, sky rendering, and animation. The game mechanics require players to account for environmental variables by calculating bullet trajectories. A custom quadratic formula is employed to simulate gravity-induced bullet drop based on distance, while a dynamic wind meter introduces lateral sway. The user interface provides essential feedback, including remaining ammunition, target counts, and environmental data, to assist players in making the necessary adjustments before firing.
The methodology focuses on the practical application of game design theory, emphasizing the transition from conceptual mechanics to functional code. The development process involved modeling terrain and equipment in Blender, implementing randomized target positioning, and creating interactive controls for zooming and shooting. The study concludes that while the current prototype is in an early stage, it successfully demonstrates the integration of complex physical calculations into a playable format. Future development is expected to focus on refining these mechanics and conducting user testing to evaluate the effectiveness of the simulation in a practical gaming context.
