Capcom’s financial results for the first half of the 2023 fiscal year, ending September 30, demonstrate significant growth driven by strong performance in its digital contents division and robust back catalog sales. The company reported net sales of ¥74.9 billion ($498 million), representing a 52.7% increase year-over-year, while operating income rose by 54.4% to ¥33.8 billion ($224.9 million).
The digital contents division remains the primary revenue driver, accounting for 81.7% of total sales. While digital distribution remains the dominant channel, physical copy sales experienced a notable 179% year-over-year increase. The mobile segment also contributed to the growth, generating ¥1.5 billion in revenue, a 36% increase bolstered by the successful launch of Monster Hunter Now. Overall, Capcom sold 22.6 million units of games during this period, with 81.4% of these sales occurring in overseas markets.
New releases and legacy titles were both instrumental to these results. Street Fighter 6 emerged as the top-selling title of the period with 2.47 million units sold, followed by the Resident Evil 4 remake at 1.66 million units. Notably, back catalog titles accounted for 77.9% of total unit sales, underscoring the long-term commercial viability of the company’s existing library. Looking ahead, Capcom maintains a positive outlook for the full fiscal year ending March 31, 2024, projecting total net sales of ¥140 billion and an 11% year-over-year increase in overall revenue.
