Capcom
Capcom’s financial performance for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2023, reflects a period of record-breaking growth, marking the company’s tenth consecutive year of operating income expansion. The primary thesis of the fiscal results centers on the successful execution of a digital-first strategy within the consumer gaming segment, bolstered by strong catalog title sales and the release of major new intellectual property. Net sales reached 125.9 billion yen, with operating income rising to 50.8 billion yen, both exceeding initial forecasts.
The Digital Contents segment served as the primary growth engine, contributing 98.1 billion yen in net sales. This performance was driven by a record 41.7 million units in total software sales, with digital sales accounting for 89.4% of that volume. The company successfully leveraged its back-catalog, which accounted for 29.3 million units, alongside new releases such as the Resident Evil 4 remake and Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. This digital shift significantly improved operating margins within the segment to 54.5%.
Secondary business segments also showed positive momentum. Arcade operations experienced a post-pandemic recovery, with same-store sales increasing by 20% and the opening of five new locations. The Amusement Equipments segment saw a rise in both sales and profit, supported by the release of four new pachislo titles. Meanwhile, the company continued to advance its Single Content Multiple Usage strategy, focusing on media adaptations and global eSports initiatives to maximize the long-term value of its core franchises. Overall, the fiscal year concluded with a strong balance sheet and a dividend payout ratio of 36.1%, underscoring a robust return on equity of 23.9%.
