Ubisoft leads all publishers on Steam in estimated revenue.
This analysis examines two distinct facets of the Steam marketplace: the revenue performance of top-tier developers and the evolving utility of user wishlists as a predictive metric. Data regarding developer and publisher revenue highlights the dominance of major industry players, while marketing research addresses the phenomenon of wishlist inflation and its impact on sales forecasting.
Revenue data identifies PUBG Corp. as the leading developer on Steam with $2.2 billion in estimated revenue, followed closely by CD Projekt RED at $2 billion and Ubisoft Montreal at $1.9 billion. Among publishers, Ubisoft holds the top position with $3.1 billion in estimated revenue, followed by 2K and Bandai Namco. These findings are derived from analytics platforms that categorize developers and publishers based on revenue estimates, release volume, and genre, providing a comprehensive overview of the platform's high-earning entities.
Regarding marketing metrics, research into 160 games reveals that Steam wishlists are experiencing significant inflation. While the number of wishlists continues to grow, the conversion rate to actual sales has declined; games released between 2023 and 2025 yielded approximately half the sales per wishlist compared to those released between 2020 and 2022. This trend is attributed to easier wishlist functionality and increased developer marketing sophistication, which have transformed wishlists into a more casual bookmarking tool.
Despite this inflation, wishlists remain a reliable indicator of commercial potential. The correlation between wishlist counts and final sales remains strong, and when combined with the velocity of wishlist additions, they continue to serve as an effective tool for forecasting game performance. Consequently, while the conversion coefficient has shifted, the predictive value of the metric persists for industry professionals.
