This represents a 7.4% increase over the previous year.
The 2026 Annual Review for Ukie, the UK’s trade association for the video games and interactive entertainment sector, details the organization’s progress during the second year of its five-year "Supercharged" strategy. The primary objective of this initiative is to secure formal recognition, regulatory support, and economic growth for the UK games ecosystem. By focusing on advocacy, talent development, and industry cohesion, the association aims to transition from establishing foundational policy support to driving large-scale industry expansion.
Key achievements for the 2025–2026 period include the successful lobbying for dedicated Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codes for video game development, publishing, and esports, which allows for more accurate official measurement of the sector. The industry reached a record-high consumer spend of £8.76 billion, a 7.4% increase over the previous year. Furthermore, the association facilitated £80 million in business wins through its international trade programs, supporting 275 companies across markets including China, Japan, and the United States. Advocacy efforts also resulted in the government’s £30 million Games Growth Package, the largest financial support initiative for the sector to date.
The scope of the review covers the entirety of the UK interactive entertainment ecosystem, ranging from indie startups to AAA brands and esports organizations. Methodologically, the report draws on internal performance metrics, government data, and audited financial statements. While the association reported an operating deficit of £348,837 for the fiscal year—attributed to the loss of a key program sponsor and one-time accounting provisions—it maintains a strong focus on long-term sustainability. Through initiatives like Digital Schoolhouse, which engaged over 48,000 children, and the expansion of its Scottish branch, the association continues to prioritize workforce development and regional representation to ensure the long-term competitiveness of the UK games industry.
