The mobile gaming industry experienced significant revenue growth in May 2020, driven by sustained player engagement during global pandemic-related lockdowns. The primary objective of this analysis is to identify the top-grossing mobile titles worldwide, providing a snapshot of market performance and consumer spending trends across the App Store and Google Play platforms.

PUBG Mobile led the global market, generating over $226 million in user spending, a 41 percent increase compared to May 2019. Tencent’s Honor of Kings followed closely with $204.5 million, marking a 42 percent year-over-year rise. Other notable top performers included Roblox, Monster Strike, and Coin Master. The data highlights the resilience of established titles, with Pokémon GO achieving its highest revenue since September 2019—totaling $82.2 million—following strategic gameplay adjustments designed to facilitate home-based play. Additionally, Three Kingdoms Strategic demonstrated strong momentum, reaching a record $85.4 million in monthly revenue and nearing $500 million in lifetime earnings within its first year of release.

The findings are derived from the Store Intelligence platform, covering gross user spending between May 1, 2019, and May 31, 2020. The scope is limited to worldwide revenue on the Apple App Store and Google Play, excluding third-party Android marketplaces. The analysis underscores how pandemic-era shifts in consumer behavior significantly bolstered mobile game monetization, with major publishers successfully adapting their offerings to maintain and grow their player bases during periods of restricted movement.
