The global gaming advertising landscape in 2026 is characterized by a significant shift toward short-form video content and a massive increase in creative production volume. Analyzing data from Q4 2025 through Q3 2026 across 22 markets, the industry recorded approximately $14 billion in total ad spend, with the United States accounting for more than half of that figure at $7.6 billion. The analysis utilizes Pathmatics ad spend data and Mobile App Insights to track trends across mobile, PC, and console segments.
Mobile game advertising remains dominated by Display and Video, which consistently captures over 55% of quarterly budgets. A notable trend is the rapid escalation in creative output; top mobile advertisers increased their monthly production of new creatives by 3.4 times compared to the previous year. While total ad spend grew by only 1.7 times, the surge in volume suggests that developers are leveraging AI tools to produce higher quantities of assets, as ad platforms increasingly reward high-frequency creative rotation. Short-form video formats, particularly Reels on Facebook and Instagram, have become the primary placement strategy for mobile titles.
In the console sector, Nintendo and PlayStation have solidified their dominance, collectively controlling 87.3% of total marketing spend among hardware manufacturers. Microsoft’s presence in the US hardware advertising market has effectively ceased, and its investment in Game Pass promotion has seen significant reductions. Meanwhile, PC and console games continue to favor social media channels for the bulk of their advertising, though they maintain a more traditional approach to video formats compared to the mobile sector. Across all platforms, original intellectual properties rely significantly more on paid acquisition, whereas established franchises benefit from higher organic search traffic.
