Research conducted by the product review website Rave Reviews identifies Ubisoft as the most negatively perceived video game developer on a global scale. The analysis, which examines brand sentiment across various international markets, positions Ubisoft as the leading "hated" gaming brand in 23 countries, including major markets such as France, Germany, Russia, Italy, and Brazil.
The methodology relies on a sentiment analysis of over one million brand-related tweets. By calculating the percentage of negative mentions for specific companies, the study ranks brands by location and industry category. Following Ubisoft in the gaming sector, Capcom holds the highest negative sentiment in nine countries, while Game Freak exhibits a notable 100% negative sentiment rate within Canada. Other industry giants show varying levels of regional unpopularity, with Sony identified as the most hated global brand across 10 countries and Microsoft leading as the most hated big tech brand in 22 countries.
These findings highlight a significant trend in consumer sentiment toward major gaming publishers and hardware manufacturers. While Ubisoft currently holds the highest number of countries where it is the most disliked gaming entity, the data underscores that negative brand perception is a widespread challenge for industry leaders, with different companies dominating the "hated" rankings depending on the geographic region.
