The new Pokémon title secured the top spot in unit sales across Europe.
The launch of Pokémon Legends: Z-A in Europe secured the number one position in unit sales for the week ending October 19, 2025. Despite this top-tier ranking, the title represents the smallest mainline Pokémon launch since 2018. Sales figures for the new release are approximately 28% lower than those of its predecessor, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which debuted in 2022.
The analysis, which utilizes GSD data covering physical retail and select digital storefronts across a broad range of European markets, highlights a notable hardware impact. Although the game is available on multiple Nintendo platforms, it has been positioned as a flagship title for the Switch 2. The inclusion of the game in official Switch 2 hardware bundles successfully stimulated console sales, which in turn generated a 15% week-on-week increase for other software on the platform, such as Mario Kart World.
The broader European market context for the week showed significant volatility among other top-performing titles. Battlefield 6, which held the top spot the previous week, experienced a 70% decline in sales, while other titles like Little Nightmares 3 saw similar drops. Conversely, aggressive pricing strategies drove substantial growth for older titles, with Hogwarts Legacy recording a 244% increase in weekly sales. These findings underscore a complex retail environment where new releases face softer initial demand compared to historical franchise benchmarks, even while successfully driving hardware adoption.
