Riot Games has appointed co-founder and former co-CEO Marc Merrill to the newly created position of Chief Product Officer. In this executive capacity, Merrill reports directly to CEO Dylan Jadeja and assumes responsibility for the company’s entire product ecosystem. His mandate includes overseeing the strategic vision for all active titles, such as League of Legends, Valorant, Teamfight Tactics, Wild Rift, and Legends of Runeterra, as well as managing upcoming projects, including the company’s fighting game and MMO developments.
The primary objective of this role is to align product strategy across gameplay, esports, and entertainment experiences to ensure cohesive and impactful outcomes for the player base. Merrill previously served as the president of Riot’s games pillar, where he directed the overarching strategy for the company’s portfolio. This transition represents a consolidation of leadership oversight, moving from a focus on specific game pillars to a unified management structure for all of Riot’s intellectual properties.
Merrill has been a central figure at Riot Games since its inception in 2006. His tenure has been marked by both significant growth and historical challenges, including public scrutiny regarding the company’s internal culture and allegations of systemic gender discrimination that emerged in 2018. This promotion signals a continued reliance on long-standing leadership to navigate the company’s future product development and strategic alignment.
