The Ligue Française de League of Legends (LFL) is facing a period of significant instability as multiple organizations withdraw from the competition ahead of the 2027 season. The primary driver of these exits is a lack of clarity regarding the league’s future management following the departure of its long-time operator, Webedia. As of October 2026, no successor has been named to oversee the league’s commercial partnerships, administration, or broadcast production for the upcoming year.
The impact of this uncertainty is evident in the recent departures of Team Vitality and Ici Japon Corp Esport, both of which cited the league's opaque future as a deciding factor. These exits follow a broader trend of contraction within the LFL; half of the teams that competed in the 2026 Summer Split are confirmed not to return for 2027. Furthermore, only five of the ten LEC organizations continue to field teams in regional leagues, signaling a wider retreat from the European second-tier ecosystem.
While organizations like New Esports Org. (NEO) have been discussed as potential candidates to take over the LFL, no formal agreement has been reached. The situation is compounded by Riot Games’ decision to discontinue the "LEC Versus" format, which previously provided a pathway for regional teams to reach the top-flight competition. With the current three-year licensing cycle for regional organizers set to conclude after 2027, the league faces an urgent need for a defined operational strategy to prevent further attrition and maintain the viability of the French esports development pathway.
