Hello, hello. This is two and a half gamers solo special episode as always. And because we are covering a lot of Steam games, let's cover another one. So, this time I'm going to talk about Mekorama, one of those games that you maybe never heard of, but it did 56 million. So, let's start right there. Um this is a game that was actually built by two-man team in 2 months, which is amazing. And if you look at the statistics here, yeah, it skyrocketed somewhere around June. Um you see the peak of like 300,000 20 320k users basically now falling off as usual kind of a you know, monthly friends will hit. But nevertheless, 56 million in
current revenue. If you look at the Steam page, it's something like 41k reviews on 90% positive. And the price is also quite interesting. It's like I think this is $5.99 in dollars and six and six euros something. So, very, very cheap. Again, by Lemurian or what like I'll show you in the main main menu like uh um those are two guys basically if I understand that are responsible for the game. So, let me go into the game itself. Why are we talking about it? Why it's so good? And actually I even win one round already. So, yeah, this is going to be a little bit more hit and miss setup. So, let's see how we will fare. So, yeah, there we are. This is by the way one of those things that looks like uh
like uh yeah, it's quite low production quality. You don't need high production quality to make millions. Like, that's there. So, let me find the server because this game can only be played multiplayer. There's no single player in this game. You need again people to kind of go around there. You see how many localization are there right from the bat? So, let's find the server. And uh actually we want the Europe one. Downloaded mods we don't really want now. I've talked about that later, but it's very very important. So, let me try to search some servers with actual players.
[gasps]
Game in progress. Game in progress. Yes, game in progress.
[sighs and gasps]
Waiting. Maybe here. Let's see. Yeah, so this is the lobby. Uh you wait here.
And uh you decide who's the hunter and who's the one that's, you know, hiding. Uh these are the two guys see? There's Haganero and Lemurian. That's like the credits, basically. So, oh, really? Did I get selected as a hunter?
[laughter]
Okay, so I guess we'll need another game to show you how it actually works or maybe uh you'll see because again, this is pretty much a version of hide and seek where again, now people have time if they're in the hiding team to hide. And you see that everybody is just like these white blobs. That's like white canvas because there's a lot of paint option. That's why the game Make a Chameleon is taking its name very literally need to spray paint or put textures on you to like blend with the environment. And
the only thing you do there is just like you just stand there and then wait until somebody hopefully never finds you. And now we are on the hunter team. And yeah, I have this kind of a shotgun. And what we are tasked with is that you see here on the top right there's a clock ticking until the search starts. So people have like under like 50 seconds to find a spot and get uh you know, blend and do chameleon there. And we have now two hunters against five pretty much people being uh hiding. We still have like 1 minute to go. And once the timer goes in, we go into the environment and start pretty much looking at them and shooting at them. We need to pretty much shoot them down. Then, if I understand I guess there's different modes, but in the ones that I played mostly is that whoever I shoot down one of the guys that's in the hiding team gets gets off. And they actually join our team so they
can continue playing and they'll join the team of the hunters. So it's again it goes quite fast because this is a good mechanic in a way that people just don't spectate forever. But you can do that also. So in 20 seconds we go into the map and start searching for people. And as you see the models of hunters are quite big when you are the one that's hiding you're quite small. So it's pretty rough to actually find it, but let's see. So let me see because again me playing this team game when I actually record them never goes usually well. So we go and then we start searching for people. So go into some obvious spots. You can do, you know, a lot of these movements to check all the corners. Always look to the Usually, what I saw that people were hiding like in really, really sophisticated places and
took like a lot of jumping to kind of get there. See? They could be literally under the table right there. But not this time, I guess. [sighs and gasps] There Oh, there we go. So, we found the person. Shooting down, and it seems it didn't join our team, so this is a different mode.
[sighs and gasps]
Let's continue. Um a library, maybe. Not there.
[sighs and gasps]
Okay, my teammate found someone. Um There we go. And Oh, where we are? Yeah, not here. Sometimes, you literally need to search
everything because people can be anywhere, and they're quite small. See, another one.
[gasps]
Found. I hope he's not up there. Okay, so you can do also these crazy jumps, as you see. So, you look literally for like textures that are not symmetric, or something that's Sometimes, people literally just sit on the wall, and then they're there. And again, the best part, by the way, is when you're hidden and just you see all these people running around and not being able to find you. Like, that's great. Okay, one more person and we win this round. That we need to find. Okay. And this here. Hmm. Quite big rooms. Let me see what we can find here. I
think we were here already. Ta ta ta ta ta ta a lot of space.
[gasps]
Oh, you see nothing to the lamp. No. Okay, under the table. The other thing that's quite important is that these maps, they are basically the meta. Because if you play some of these maps, you eventually learn how pretty much the best hiding spots work or where people would want to kind of hide. And what's that? Oh, there's nothing. Where people are pretty much kind of going for their like positions that they want to hide. And then uh you slowly kind of go and kind of
figure it out because again you know that okay, this is this map and this map these positions are the best ones to find. In that map that positions are the best ones to find. Um let me go here. And slowly you kind of figure it out, which means that at some point these maps become quite trivial to solve because people can find all the places. So, therefore, what needs to happen, new maps needs to be created which pretty much control the meta. And that's where the Steam Workshop comes in. Because Steam Workshop is the part where players are creating new maps and those new maps again pretty much set a new challenge of again what's where to hide, where to go and like what what to do. And from there you can see that it goes kind of perpetual that new map oh hunters wait ah he found it okay. Where was the guy?
That was the guy I thought that it was this ah Yeah yeah. I I was there I didn't okay. Doesn't matter. So we win hunters win that you see the round like how it works with the hunters. Hopefully on the next one I'm going to be selected into the chameleons so I can show you how it works there. Okay, real talk before we start. Okay. Let's see how this server works because we were selected as a hunter again on the other one, which we already did, so hopefully this one will select now as as chameleons. I think to download. Yeah, so here you see how we are downloading the mode because it's
a lot of the things. It's literally reminds me of good old Battle.net days where you would need to first download the map and wait for the other players to download the map. And uh uh download
[sighs]
subscribe. What do I do here? Subscribe and subscribe. Okay, download confirmed. There we go. Um so yeah, similar to Battle.net where we would just wait for other players to download the custom mode map like this was never ending process. I remember those good old days. The good old uh Warcraft 3 Battle.net. I think that was like long long time ago. Anyway, so lots of players are downloading the stuff. Two more to go and then we can go. Um
[gasps]
Here we go. Finally, hide time. So here you see we got selected as the ones that are hiding. So we go here. We have this. What is this gem? Usually you can like climb walls and do stuff.
[sighs]
But again the best spots are the ones that are kind of not obvious. Like hiding behind a big object doesn't really solve anything.
[gasps and sighs]
Let's see him some more. Small doesn't seems to work that well. Mhm, trying to close it somebody would definitely find me there.
[sighs]
Okay.
I guess here it's maybe even better. Well, there's cuz lots of it depends on light. Like where light shines upon you and where you are and like where pretty much you will be hiding in that light. See for instance here. So, let me just maybe because this stuff is obvious because somebody will be scaling that wall. But if I go here into that small thing here. See. And now we need to do the paint part. So, we need to do eyedropper. And now paint.
[sighs and gasps]
See. Now we're painting us like this. And now
we're blending with the environment. And now we need again eyedropper. And blending us like this. There we go. I think it's pretty good. So, ready. And we are good to go. And now what we will do, we will basically Oh, need a little bit more paint there.
[sighs]
Oh, cuz it was like that there. Okay. So, now you see that it's search start and we can see other people will start going around. So, here for instance is our guy. We can see it right there.
[gasps]
And hopefully he's not AFK.
Okay. So, we see how people are slowly pretty much going around. Well, somebody found us. That was it. And now we joined the hunters. So, then our hiding spot right there was shot to that. And now we're joining the hunt team as the ones that are hunting for the other chameleons. And that's it pretty much. Like it's quite an easy concept. Um yeah. You don't really need that much for it. As I said, 2 months to kind of get this. And the other thing was that uh guys had a little bit of a problem with this whole workshop thing because um the mods or some some of the workshop maps were corrupted and actually malware was going through them. So, the game
kind of nose dive in reviews and well, getting big problems. But uh it seems that Oopla. Chameleons wins. So, yeah. The the mods were corrupted. So, they fixed the patch, I guess, because it's so small of a team that that it has this problem. But, other than that, um yeah. This game seems extremely Let me go to the to the original patch. So, this game seems extremely uh simple to make, and it's I think again one of those friend slope games that are just flavor of the month. And they're extremely efficient because, as I said, 2-months project of this. And again, it's a little bit of a Let's say the innovation is when you can, as you
saw there, you can paint yourself and do stuff with it rather than just be there and can change into object or something. Like, I was looking at it, and it's quite clever uh of an innovation. But, again, it's nothing to kind of look at as the game took just 2 months to do. So, yeah. You don't really need that much to kind of go go from there. So, this was Mega Chameleon. Um again, me playing on live a podcast being horrible, but doesn't matter. At least wanted to show the mechanics what this hype is about because we'll definitely talk about this game in Steam Scanner, Full Steam Ahead on Q2 setup. So, once we talk about this, I'll definitely to reference this video. Hope you enjoyed uh it's quite fun, actually. Again, for me, the biggest fun is always like when you're hiding and you see other people actually looking at you not being able to find you. So, that that's there. But, again, great party game, great friend slope game for a weekend with
your friends. And yeah, I guess that that's it for this game because I don't think so this will kind of continue living. It's another friend slope game will take its place, and then we all move on to the next friend slope thing. Thank you very much. Uh, let us know in the comments if you play this, if you're looking to learn this, join the Slack, subscribe, see you next time. Ciao.

Meccha Chameleon serves as a case study for the high-revenue potential of low-production, viral-driven games within the Steam ecosystem. Developed by a two-person team in just two months, the title generated $56 million in revenue, demonstrating that minimal development time and simple mechanics can yield significant financial success. The game experienced a notable surge in popularity around June, peaking at approximately 320,000 users before following a typical decline in engagement common among "friend-slope" or social party games.
The game’s core loop is a variation of hide-and-seek where players act as either hunters or hiders. Hiders utilize a unique "chameleon" mechanic, allowing them to sample textures from the environment and paint their character models to blend into surroundings. This innovation, combined with a low price point of approximately $5.99, has driven strong community reception, evidenced by 41,000 reviews with a 90% positive rating. The longevity of the title is heavily reliant on the Steam Workshop, where user-generated maps continuously refresh the meta and prevent the gameplay from becoming trivial.
Despite its success, the project faced operational challenges, including a significant dip in user sentiment due to corrupted mods and malware distributed through the workshop. These issues highlight the risks inherent in relying on community-driven content for small development teams. Ultimately, the game is categorized as a transient trend, illustrating a broader industry pattern where simple, highly social games capture massive, short-term audiences before the player base migrates to the next viral title. The findings emphasize that for this segment of the market, rapid iteration and social mechanics are more critical to commercial performance than high-fidelity production values.
