Gundersen served with the organization for over four years, holding various leadership capacities since January 2020.
Jonas Gundersen, the Chief Operating Officer of Western Operations for NIP Group, announced his departure from the organization in February 2024. After serving in various leadership capacities since January 2020, Gundersen is stepping down to pursue new entrepreneurial ventures within the esports sector. Erik Wendel, the current Director of Esports at NIP Group, has been appointed to assume Gundersen’s responsibilities.
During his four-year tenure, Gundersen played a significant role in the company’s expansion, which grew from a small team of 10 employees in Stockholm to a global organization with over 300 staff members, 16 teams, and five international offices. This growth included the 2021 merger between Ninjas in Pyjamas and the Chinese esports entity eStar Gaming Victory Five (ESV5), which resulted in the formation of the current NIP Group.
Gundersen’s exit marks the end of a period of rapid scaling for the organization, which navigated both the global pandemic and a challenging business climate during his time as an executive. While he has not disclosed specific details regarding his next professional move, he expressed a continued commitment to the esports industry, citing significant opportunities for value creation and long-term growth across the global ecosystem. His background includes extensive experience as an entrepreneur and a former professional esports athlete.
