The global release of the mobile card game Harry Potter: Magic Awakened generated $2.33 million in in-app purchase (IAP) revenue during its first week of availability, spanning June 27 to July 3, 2023. This performance reflects the combined results of two distinct regional versions: one published by NetEase across 14 countries in Asia and the MENA region, and another published by Warner Bros. Games across 41 Western countries. The data excludes the game’s original Chinese market launch.
Financial performance was heavily concentrated in specific territories, with Japan leading the market by contributing 41.6% of total IAP revenue, followed by the United States at 25.5%. In terms of user acquisition, the game achieved over 3.75 million downloads during the same seven-day period. The United States accounted for the largest share of these installs at 17.4%, followed by Japan at 15.3%. While the NetEase-published version generated higher revenue at $1.31 million, the Warner Bros. Games version accounted for 64% of total global downloads.
These figures were derived from AppMagic data, which accounts for platform fees and inclusive taxes. While the global launch demonstrates significant initial interest, the revenue figures remain substantially lower than the $22.7 million generated by the game’s initial Chinese launch in 2021. The title continues to build upon the broader Harry Potter mobile gaming portfolio, which remains led by Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, a title that has surpassed $400 million in lifetime revenue.
