This new competitive gaming experience is built within Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN). It aims to create a custom competitive ecosystem.
The ESL FACEIT Group (EFG) has announced the development of a new competitive gaming initiative titled ESL Featuring Fortnite. Created in collaboration with the development studio 404 Creative, this project utilizes the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) to build a custom competitive ecosystem. The initiative focuses on a classic first-person shooter (FPS) experience, featuring 4v4 team-based gameplay, specialized character classes, and established competitive modes such as Capture the Flag and Hardpoint.
This venture operates independently of Epic Games, the owner of Fortnite, and exists outside the official competitive scene currently managed by rival organizer BLAST. EFG intends to host these competitions on its proprietary platform, FACEIT, and has implemented a closed-loop revenue system designed to reinvest earnings back into the community. Several prominent professional esports organizations, including Karmine Corp., Team Heretics, ZETA Division, and Dignitas, have already committed to participating in the program.
EFG, a subsidiary of the Saudi-backed Savvy Games Group, continues to expand its influence in the global esports market through this development. While the initiative introduces a new competitive structure for the title, it remains unclear how these events will integrate with broader industry efforts, such as the Esports World Cup. The project represents a strategic effort by EFG to leverage UEFN tools to create bespoke, team-oriented content that diverges from the standard battle royale format typically associated with the game.
