The event took place at the San Diego Convention Center, marking its debut in the city. Intel and Monster Energy served as marquee sponsors.
DreamHack San Diego, organized by the ESL FACEIT Group, held its inaugural gaming festival at the San Diego Convention Center from April 7–9, 2023. The event served as a major hub for competitive gaming, featuring a diverse array of professional tournaments, community-focused competitions, and brand activations supported by marquee sponsors Intel and Monster Energy.
The festival’s competitive programming was headlined by the Rocket League Championship Series Winter Major, which featured a $310,000 prize pool for top North American teams. Other significant events included a $250,000 Zero Build Fortnite tournament and the Snapdragon Pro Series, which hosted Brawl Stars and Clash of Clans competitions with a combined $100,000 prize pool. Additionally, the event catered to the fighting game community with 14 tournaments under the DreamHack Fighters banner, including titles such as Super Smash Bros. and Street Fighter V, alongside a $70,000 Brawlhalla circuit stop.
Beyond professional esports, the festival incorporated Magic: The Gathering regional championships, various bring-your-own-controller tournaments, and a $3,000 cosplay event. The festival also emphasized social responsibility through the Dream Big initiative, a partnership with the Autism Society San Diego that provided ticket discounts and directed 50% of those proceeds to the non-profit organization. By offering a mix of high-stakes professional play and accessible community engagement, the event established a broad footprint for the DreamHack brand in the Southern California market.
