The mobile strategy game Three Kingdoms Tactics, published by Alibaba, has achieved significant commercial success, surpassing $1.2 billion in lifetime revenue as of April 2021. Since its release in September 2019, the title has established itself as Alibaba’s most successful mobile game to date. The game’s performance highlights its dominance in the 4X strategy genre, where it has outperformed major competitors such as Rise of Kingdoms and State of Survival.
Data provided by Sensor Tower indicates that the game generated $194.8 million in the first few months of 2021 alone, securing its position as the fifth highest-grossing iOS game globally during that period. The title’s revenue is heavily concentrated in the Chinese market, which accounts for 96.2 percent of its total earnings on the iOS platform. Global revenue from Google Play remains a minor contributor, representing only 1.8 percent of the total, or approximately $21 million.
The success of Three Kingdoms Tactics underscores the broader influence of Chinese publishers within the global mobile gaming market, as evidenced by the fact that four of the top five highest-grossing games on the App Store are currently published by Chinese companies. This performance reflects a strong regional focus, with the game’s availability limited to eight countries at the time of the analysis. The findings illustrate the substantial revenue potential for high-performing strategy titles within the Chinese mobile ecosystem.
