I guess Chinese humor. Then we have like very interesting idle reward.
I like that you say that because definitely think we understand maybe 60% of what's going on here.
That's over estimate. That's a very big over estimate. Yeah.
[laughter]
Yeah.
30 at best. Uh
Hello everybody. This is your favorite expert on mobile gaming industry 2 and 1/2 Gamers. Welcome.
Oh, hello.
Welcome. So, what are we talking about today? We are talking about the Cell Survivor. But before we go there, you know, we know what's what's coming. My name is Matias Lancho.
I'm Filip Broberg.
And we got a tip from our very favorite friend from China, Lemon, which I'm starting to hate after this episode because it was extremely painful to get in this game where I wanted to get.
Uh yeah, it was quite and still quite hard. And I felt like, "Oh, this is great." And then I started playing and I was like, "Oh, this is not that great."
[laughter]
No, it's great.
template. Yeah.
It's It's great in itself that it works, but it's definitely not pleasant to get
into this game where I wanted to get because it's just like
how this game is making so much money. Let's just leave it there.
Uh because it's making in Asia. It's easy. I'll show you later.
But it's coming from US as well. But the fate mermaid virus, I mean like come on.
Man, it's just so funny. Like yeah, these really funny tropes like you just don't you don't see them here. Like sneaking neighbor virus, really? Depression?
Yeah, the depression was quite tough and I I don't think I I don't think I I I
Social butterfly virus?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
For an onboarding, I think social butterfly virus is pretty hard.
Yeah, I think it de-onboarded all the vested [laughter] users.
Yeah. De-boarded for sure. Yeah, I was like, "Oh, I'm not doing this."
Yeah, I was like, "I'm playing. I'm just like, yeah, I don't like this."
Yeah. Anyway, let's start with the core. We can then go through the numbers because some of the things that this game is quite unique, some of them is extremely annoying, and some of those are like
quite good. So, we have the typical hobby template, but this is not the one that we know from Survivor IO. This is the 2.0 one. So, it's different definitely. So, if we start the battle, yeah.
Why don't they unfold it? You just get everything after you finish the first battle. It's just like in your face.
It's just Yeah, I I I got so pissed about this. Like the whole screen unlocks with every single feature in the game and you go here like, "Oh, by the way, unlock chapter 12. Oh, by the way, unlock chapter seven. Oh, by the way, already unlocked that one." Or whatever. Like there's stuff that that's like, "Why do I need to see every [ __ ] thing if I can't even touch it?"
Why not? Just to get over bombed. Just to know like what's what's coming.
It was extremely annoying to get through this kind of tutorial part or whatever because like you literally couldn't click on anything on the screen because it was not unlocked, so why do show it to me? It's like against every single UI hobby rule that these guys laid down for everybody. Whatever.
Well, but I guess it works anyway. So, we're going against what? Fake innocent virus? No, not this one. Cloudy virus. We're going against spirit virus because we already beat fat mermaid virus, I think, today. Anyway. So, what we have here is
in like the we?
Whatever.
Person?
Or two of those. Okay, so that's interesting. So, we have this let's say snake style enemy, which is a nice iteration because
All UA like creatives that we saw.
Yeah, like this game is heavily
this is too too kind of too hardcore, man. Come on.
Yeah, it's it's very hardcore, but that's why I guess it's doing very good on Asian audiences.

We have our our guy that you actually need to aim with. The interesting part is that sometimes like the layout of the level actually changes like you in the middle and going around or whatever. So, like there's like multiples. It is nice. It's like I think it's based based on the creatives or whatever that these guys are doing. And then, um you wish the other interesting thing is that you don't level up
as for usuals, whatever.
You know what was really confusing? If you if you can then like uh get the chest. I still don't understand like what's better. Right, yellow, purple, blue, or green? Like what the [ __ ] is the rarity about?
the shittiest one, red is the best one.
Why you go from right to right to left? Why you go from right to left? I mean, I I got it.
is like an Asian language where you read the other way. It's Asian guys.
is it pointing the other way then? Why don't you put the arrows the other way? But yeah, I was like Yeah, wait a second. I mean, I guess
Yes.
Yes, that's that's what I that's what I understood afterwards. And then you have the legendary which is yellow usually and then I was like, "Okay, well, how is purple not better than the green?" I was like, "Uh it doesn't make any sense."
Green stuff is uncommon uncommon color in the World of Warcraft, but like but like this blue green
it's the it's opposite. I mean, green is usually at least like a little bit rare or just
you know.
Green is [ __ ] Blue is always better than green.
Okay, but then you have gray which is usually looks like
Gray's the shittiest which we are missing.
Okay, good.
Whatever. Anyway, so we go here.
time to figure out.
The game is basically based on all these snake creatives as for the core. It's nicely done. You need to shoot these chests in order to get level ups. So, you don't level up by normal XP. You literally need to shoot down the chest. If you don't shoot them, you dead. So,
You need to Would you say you need to shoot them up?
Uh yeah, you need to shoot them up. Uh where do we go? This this thing we had. These guys go slowly against you even though they will do spins and rounds and whatever cover the whole screen, but basically eventually they get to you and then you will die. So, that's there, but you can, as you see, kill them quite easily in the beginning. By the way, some of these skills are completely useless, as as as as always.
the one he's built out now is quite bad
for this level.
extremely bad. Uh, so and the more different skills you choose the worse you are because then again you're focusing on
the wrong thing.
Yeah, and we still have normal speed on So, that's there and uh I think they literally balanced this game around the thing that you will need to watch ads, not only to refresh these things that are like the skill randomizer.
Like click it, click it, click it.
Uh, I'll get to that.
Refresh so you see that placement.
But the But the problem is that the difficulty is so hard that like you will just die.
No, but they also capped the ad views. So, like the next chest that you get, like they also here, click for a free refresh and then Why do you have tickets for all this?
Because on seventh day you get five skip ads tickets.
I would use those all up so you get the placements.
No, definitely not.
No?
What?
Yeah, use them all up.
Refresh.
Yeah.
But I have an epic skill here.
Okay, fine. Take it.
Take it, you epic skill here. This min-maxer [ __ ] guy. Jesus. There you go.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
But they also capped the amount of ads you can watch
Yes. Everything is capped. Everything is capped. Even the number of sweeps are capped.
So, you go you go next day. You come next day.
Yeah, you come next day which we didn't
Which we will never do because it's super hard.
Yeah, it's it's very hard. It's like this game took me like nearly a week to get where I am.
When we were talking about baby survivor is hard like these in another level of hard.
Yes, this This just very very hard game [snorts] and then I'm like why? Like why why why?
Why not? Of course. I mean this is exactly like you said, suitable for the Asian audience.
And you see how the how the damage or I mean the HP of these cakes snakes
skills
is like K
per Yes.
one block here and like we're doing like
even the worst like this
400 damage or whatever.
Ooh.
This thing by the way never rolls anything good. It's just like a trap
like an ad trap basically.
Ad trap.
I'm not even clicking that. So that's there. And as I said, they eventually get to you and you can do two or three like life savers or whatever. And once you do those, they literally backtrack a little bit. Like the snake moves backwards for like a whatever half its half its length. And then you can go and try to finish it up. But you still see like I'm just 60% in so it means they still didn't get into the screen in their full size. And the worst part is that if you don't, you know, if you aren't able to kind of kill these just constantly or like attack segment that you can, you know, that hides basically behind the turn here like you're you're [ __ ] because like you just cannot. And if you spread the damage around the whole snake or whatever like hitting his whole body and like not hitting a specific part, you will just never kill him. Which means that like you Yeah, you're dead. You just don't have enough damage. So that's there and I'm not going to prolong this because we'll be here
forever. So let's exit this. What we have here again is this kind of a progression system. That's nice like usual. You go through these levels as I said, different viruses jump up all these huts at you whatever. Different I guess Chinese humor. Then we have like very interesting idle reward.
humor.
I like that you say that because definitely think we understand maybe 60% of what's going on here.
That's an overestimate. think.
a very big over-arching theme, yeah.
[laughter]
Yeah.
30 at best. We have the idle mechanic which is done interestingly through chests. So, rather than getting fixed gold
It wasn't what like Capybara Go or somewhere?
I don't know. But, you just get a chest and then you're going against this big chest which you need to open chest to get whatever.
Chest-ception.
that. Chest-ception, yeah. Then, this is quite similar to the usual kind of happy template. So, we have specific shards or fragments that we can buy from
the big chest and small chest. One's daily I can get it for an ad and then you have the gems. There's by the way five times that you can watch for coins and five times that you can watch for hard currency gems. Then, you have the artifact chest as usual which is the second layer which if I do here again, you just get some shards. Da da da da da. Legendary chest is for if I understand what uh the shards for like just higher rarity shards, basically. So, that's what we have here. Then, we have this which is basically Capybara Go one to one.
Yeah.
So, it's just the typical progression layer where there you just click on a button and it doesn't even matter because all needs to upgrade to level 10 and then you refresh and they give you these kind of new upgrades or whatever. And there's also wardrobe which I never got to like the skins and stuff. So, that's interesting. But, I guess once you start buying offers then you get there. Uh then, we have the actual shard gacha
which is quite interesting because there's no soft currency used in it. I don't know if you noticed. So, if I go here and upgrade, it just consumes the fragments. No gold, no nothing. It's just like that's it. So, that's that's quite new. Um you have these fragment exchange things which are the legendary things that again you are even able to acquire those if you have enough fragments which I don't. So, that's there. And then there's of course the second progression layer which are these artifacts which again for instance I just got this cannon 37 which literally gives you nothing. And I'm like like this should be like a big boost or something like critical damage plus 0.5% and on level two 1% one and a half two like you know what's 2% of critical damage? This is not chance. This is critical damage. Which means is the increased damage when you actually crit. Like this is zero. Like this gives you nothing.
[laughter]
How nerdy can you get?
Because this is normal, this is rare, this is elite and this is legendary which I don't know where ever I get this but I guess even the legendary stuff it's like come on Santa hat see crit damage plus 5%. So, the best thing against the worst [laughter] thing is like
It's just stingy.
Yeah, they're extremely stingy. They're ex- like this whole balancing of this game is just like you cry a river basically.
Yeah, you cry a river. Yeah.
It's like cry us a river we don't care.
No, you pay then you cry a river.
[laughter]
Yeah, I mean
Uh yeah, so this baby last
the comment section under AI videos.
Yeah.
Yeah, exactly.
Uh there's also hero treasure which I cannot uh you know open because why didn't put it on the screen. Uh the legendary chest system I can, artifact chest system I can and there's level selection which again I guess it's for hard modes and all these other things because I definitely want to get through the same experience again of the social battle fly virus being on hell difficulty which is which is amazing.
Uh the interesting part literally how I progressed in this game is the sweep functionality. Which means you cannot do anything you're stuck you're stuck you're whatever so you sweep stuff.
You want to
[laughter]
say you suck.
You click on sweep and you immediately get the rewards as you would do a normal run. And you can do this five times a day and on top of that another five times a day for an ad.
Yeah.
Which they do very well. Uh there would be this instance trials thing again coming from Survivor IO typical mode not unlocked because we not there. Got the fortune arise at chapter 12, so he doesn't arrive yet. And then we have the usual monetization stuff on the right which is again hobby one to one nothing related to it. So like I think this monthly card even the logo is literally the same as for capybara go or uh what's the other one? Archero 2. Like
this is all of this is taken from Legend of Mushroom for those who don't know like that's what hobby absorb into their template. So this is pretty much taken there. Uh and uh that's it. Like that that's the game basically or how I could pretty much go in it because it's hard as [ __ ] As you can continue through it. Uh which levels you guys did get to? Which
Four.
Four.
I think I spent my whole life on this.
[laughter]
Two.
Really hard. It's it's it's very hard. Like because the core creates some very specific situations as I said like if you are not able to do like single snake cell body damage and you just spread out like area damage is like the worst thing you can get because like it scales so high that they you just don't do [ __ ] You need to have specific things in it.
How was this game earning so much money?
Yeah. Now we get to the number section. Why is this making so much money and thanks again Lemon for pointing us to this? So it's doing actually pretty good on
both downloads and revenue side if we take them against each other. What do you mean okay? It's doing great. It's doing Yeah, yeah. So it's doing 60k downloads a day still after this kind of longer pause from last year. It started scaling somewhere like last summer.
Yeah, but countries. Countries.
Yeah, we'll get to countries. And it's doing what, 200K plus a day? Without the ads. So, if we go by our favorite country no [ __ ] filter, Japan is the top one with the most downloads and most net revenue. And that's why I'm guessing this whole humor thing plays the secret role that we don't understand because all of those are basically
at the downloads of of US, man. Look at the downloads. You have 1.2 million downloads in US.
Yes.
It's not small.
Yeah, it's not not bad. Like
Yeah.
Yeah, US is still the second in downloads, nearly the same as Japan.
Yeah.
So, and they're going just against these two mainly that you see here on the UI. Like 10K Japan, 10K US. Like if we go to Felix's favorite chart, which is active users, Japan is the bigger one, but US is
How big is it growing like crazy?
And then countries which don't pay money.
But still.
So, yeah. This is quite interesting as for why it's so strong in US compared to Japan. Honestly, I wouldn't really
that's the that's the the Felix's favorite answer. Like that's Japanese in US.
Location since US. I don't [laughter] know. But it's you see like they don't bother. Like But just this one decision, which is the like UI not unfolding is like right into your face, basically. Like it's completely counterintuitive. It works perfectly for Asia because people in Asia like to see [ __ ] ton of features. Like complex gameplay, complex games, extremely grindy and hard games. Like that's what they want, not what you
Western people want. So,
Yeah, but still US is on the third spot, which is I mean
Yeah, I guess
Not bad.
Population of Japanese in US is getting bigger and bigger as we speak.
Yeah, but look look look wait yeah yeah that's true, but look like it's 1.7 billion million downloads and 6 million revenue and then it's like 1.2 million downloads in US and 1.8 million
Yeah, that just tells you the you know the brief brief part of it that average Japanese user have three to four times the LTV of an American user because people there just play games and go to work and then they die. That's that's their life cycle. I'm sorry.
They also eat sushi.
Yeah, they eat sushi and they eat so they're so they're extremely healthy and they go over 100 years old.
Exactly yeah, so they can play games
Sorry, I know I'm just simplifying, but like basically that's what's happening.
This way was so much fun being in Japan with Yakub.
Yeah, Japan's great honestly. Like Japan's like one of my favorite countries.
Did anyone say web revenue? Oh, yeah. This episode is brought to you by FastSpring, the no drama D2C partner that's been scaling
with mobile publishers for over 20 years. They're fast growing, profitable, and seriously reliable, which is more than you can say about most vendors in this space. Anyway, whether you're launching a new web store, replacing your current D2C stack, or adding a backup plan, FastSpring is here for you. Visit fastspring.gg to set up your web store today. fastspring.gg Hello, FastSpring. Thank you very much, guys, for sponsoring this episode.
Yeah, the the the story was a little bit different you felt it when you said when you told [laughter] me that.
Yeah, but okay, but this is this might be making [ __ ] ton of money.
like honestly, this is just because the gaming culture, especially mobile gaming culture in Japan, is just extremely strong and it's completely normal for people to have these very high spend, you know, on their favorite mobile
games. There's giant amount of offline advertising that we don't see because if you go to Japan, you see there in metro stations, in billboards everywhere it's completely normal.
But now I understood this company stuff it's from it's not from China it's from Japan.
It's from Japan actually.
I mean I'm thinking because if you look at UA it's not Facebook and it's not Facebook and and YouTube and it's not Facebook or Google. It's actually Apple and Instagram and also if you if you read the name of the the game it's it's it's not Chinese.
It's Japanese.
It's Japanese.
Yeah. It's Japanese.
So I mean makes sense. So how much money they make on ads? 70 euros?
Uh 70k. But basically it's handicapped a bit Yeah, but basically it's handicapped a bit. Yeah man. Dude it's a big user base man. The user base is
Have you checked
base is what is it? 900 900k?
900k 88k
Have you checked your TXT magic whatever thing if it's right properly?
they have a really good TXT file it's really long it's Yeah I have it right
here if you want to see it. I'm really glad you asked cuz usually we don't you don't ask to see my ad of TXT file anymore. But you can see here. So basically the litmus test you want to do is you go you type in direct and then basically you can see all of these ones. So So they have 300 like direct ones.
there you go.
So basically proper setup. It's a real setup. I think probably would be a lot larger if it was in Japan that was the main monetization market because Japanese people don't watch as many ads as in the US but these guys are probably averaging on 50% six imp doubt because you can't get through these runs without watching at least two rewarded ads like it's impossible.
You can't. It's extremely hard. [clears throat]
Yeah yeah. So it's hard to say what other like placements would work here cuz I don't really understand what's going on in the game so it's like I don't know.
No but that just makes complete sense then. Like if you say it's a Japanese company then it's like the US is just a
spillover then.
Yeah.
Yeah most probably. I mean what I say you know like my I try I try to like research those that they came in company but I have no idea like I I couldn't see [ __ ] I mean this is my this is my this is yeah this is my test pretty much I mean I'm seeing miniclip loving and I'm not seeing I'm not seeing like Google or Facebook so it's a Chinese.
They're not Chinese, yeah.
[laughter]
There's to be logic here so I mean always kind of proves to be right. So So it's definitely not Chinese and so and and this
Show me your UA and then I'll tell you from which country you are.
Exactly.
That's so good.
Exactly I'm like yeah. I've seen stuff. It's so it's so great. No but this I mean but it's it tells the whole story because funnily enough when we're writing the playable ads trends Andre brought up self survivor because they are using [ __ ] ton of
[music] [music] [music] [music]
playables and it's pretty much gameplay. I mean it's pretty much gameplay. So let's check it out let's check it out because this is is pretty much like 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 I mean 6 7 uh different playables. They're actually let me just turn off the the sound from this and this is pretty much it.
This just looks like hobby you know like
Yeah it's too slow for me honestly and I think it's Oh, okay, now it's not.
There we go, Super Saiyan.
not. Now it's not.
[laughter]
What the Whatever that was. Okay, but so So, this is one, and it's it's kind of like 1-month-old. It's growing, which is not growing anymore.
some like disco style creatives or whatever, like all the, you know, effects
growing. You can see it right here. I mean, don't worry Don't worry. I mean, this is like this is pretty much like simple gameplay.
But do we think they really they really went for like they started from this creative for the core?
I mean
Because it's genius, in a way.
We we we will never know. I mean, we don't even know what's going on, you know, like Yeah.
I mean I would say
has these snake creatives been here?
Yeah. For like four years, five years? Yeah.
What was there? Yeah, yeah, yeah. When I started in the industry, I remember the first ones. Like this whole like snake going against you, and you trying to eat it, kill it, or run away from it, or whatever.
This is what you were Oh, [ __ ] [ __ ] this. I mean, the girl is like so so small. Let's see.
I mean, I I'm I'm going to show you all these different Yeah, this is exactly what I mean. What you just said, like
Yes, that's that's what I was
this is a great pace, right? This is a very good pace, exactly what I would I would expect from a from a creative like this. 10 million things happening at the same time, all the crazy [ __ ] going flying around. Like this is exactly what
Yeah, there we have it. Usual rogue-like mixture.
yeah, exactly. Exactly. It's like all these, and even this is console Yeah, uh whatever. Hello. Near death experience at the best. See? I mean, this this is [laughter] just as be as like best as you can get. But uh there's like really weird
like a woman there.
Yeah, woman there. Help me. Save me. Yeah, save me.
See? That the
See? Yeah, there's That's That's pretty much it. Oh my god, if I'm seeing seeing all of these Oh, that's me, integral again. It's going to be so small.
Is this team popular? Like this kind of, you know, I don't even know. I I worked on one game that was having this like hospital theme or whatever and it went horribly.
I mean, I don't think you you got into Japan. Well, I mean
Maybe it works in Japan only.
Exactly. Yeah, it's
Because literally it's a hospital theme.
Yeah, it's like viruses and [ __ ] and obviously Oh my god, what what was this? Oh, this.
Oh, you know what's that on the top?
This is so disturbing.
No, what is it?
The guys on the top are one of the biggest anime in Japan that's Attack on Titan.
I really
Yeah.
I thought you would say this. I saw Yeah, but See, I mean all of these different things, but it's like so many things happening. It's the snakes. Well, snakes, viruses pretty much. It's like not one, but two.
And you know, by the way, this green thing, how it's called? Snot dragon.
Snot dragon, yes. Snot dragon, yes.
[laughter]
That's that you get and it's a dragon.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. This And then this is like a medical tower or something. Yeah.
Yeah, medical tower.
And then we have pretty much here What was even second? Oh, [ __ ] it's so it's so small because it's it's really
one, the Shiba Inu one on on the on the
on the bottom.
I have this one?
This one, yeah.
Yeah, okay. So, here it is. Pretty much different cards.
green Japan.
[snorts]
Yeah, of course. I mean, I have nothing against these because this is great. And this reminds me, you know what? Kingdom Guard.
Yeah.
Pretty much. This is like one-on-one Kingdom Guard. So, then we go
new creatives? How many new creatives in the last 30 days?
Yeah, 106. So, this is all a new creatives. 850.
They're looking good.
It's all it's all pretty much AppLovin and Vungle. So, if we go here and we do US, you let's say US Facebook only, we have interesting stuff. I mean, obviously, this is what you just played.
[laughter]
Exactly what you just played. Pretty much one-to-one.
Yeah, it's just a level level capture.
But see like this is speeded up wires tags whatever doesn't matter.
But it's virus.
Then yeah, then we have these things.
What was this AI?
Which is kind of like a little bit of AI image in here things and then you go for for the gameplay with all like different hooks and cards. I mean again like too slow I guess but this is already this is US only so I guess like that's
Mhm.
that's why it's it's here but then if yes all these different AI hooks.
Oh, I see AI images.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Even this
This is AI. This is this was just AI.
This is also AI. Well, come on man like AI with lightsaber.
This is ChatGPT.
ChatGPT yeah, exactly.
But you can see the [ __ ] orange tint.
Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then another like AI stuff. Yeah.
Yeah, for sure.
Weird AI but whatever it kind of works.
Basic AI hooks.
Basic AI hooks yeah, exactly. Basic AI hooks but this is pretty much like for the for Facebook not really I'm seeing like 60 creatives so it's not really like the main main channel for even for US but if you
They're already making 300k a day, yeah? Based on Felix's estimate of their revenue. That's pretty good.
That's really good.
Really good.
And if if we go to like AppLovin US only like see I mean it's it's pretty much like 60 new creatives for US only and playables one to three for something yeah it's like it's pretty solid.
Yeah.
It's actually the second biggest game in the tower defense genre now. Honestly.
Yeah. Whatever I'm I'm watching now it's interesting.
[laughter]
Yeah, what is that?
Whatever that is, but they have loads of different creatives. See, this is You know what is this? Cup Heroes.
Yeah, that is somehow Cup Heroes.
Kind of, yeah, kind of.
Yeah.
But nice. So, yeah, I wish
What was the What was the other one? Oh, yeah, again. That is literally the Ghibli dragon.
Yes.
The the white white green one.
The face. But they are yeah, oh
Yeah, there it is.
But still, oh
What's happening? AI is happening.
AI is happening, okay. [laughter] There you go. No, but see see is like this first what like 18 seconds of of AI that might have been clean actually or 15 if it's 1 second. Wait a second. 15, no, it's too long. 17 seconds, okay, it's too long for [ __ ] But anyway, I mean overall, I don't really understand what's happening here, but that's not the point. Yeah. They are doing a lot of different stuff.
She but you know
Which is great. Which is great.
Eating cabbage, turning green.
green, of course. Yeah, I was hoping she
in Japan. You know it.
Yes, for sure. This converts so much.
[laughter]
This is great.
[gasps]
Oh my god, okay. Now we have some CGI stuff. You see, they're doing way more
even AI stuff on AppLovin than they're doing on Facebook, which is usually the the other way around, but at least it just highlights the fact that Facebook is not as important and if you already listened to the episodes of War Inc, that's what we said.
These creatives are so good.
It's really good, yeah, it's really good. So, I mean, obviously like AI it's not at the best, but still, that's all you need.
I think for a company like this company, it's
Yeah, exactly for this type of game, come on.
Yeah, this
working really really well. So, kudos, guys. Like this is a really nice like fresh air. Yeah. They're looking They're looking at. And like so many different creative concepts.
also quite unique in itself that it's not really just like the stupid creative. It offers a lot of that, especially when they are moving the levels.
Stupid creative, excuse me?
Yeah, but you know what I mean.
Yeah.
Mate, I hate to break this to you, but
most creators are [ __ ] stupid.
Actually, the one that works.
I know. I know. I know, but honestly like who cares?
Who cares? That's why it's all based on like who cares.
see, I mean, it's not really using the gameplay only because this is you know,
It has its limits.
the I alter the gameplay because it's not exactly in the game. So,
is you know, the levels are not always the same. [snorts] The snakes change roads, different snakes, two snakes, one snake. For instance, here, this is definitely in the game. Like, you aim
Yeah.
360 instead of just on the top.
Yes. Yeah. Yeah, for sure.
They do it very nice. Like, it's it's uh actually quite polished and it it feels quite um you know, like a big achievement when you complete the level because it's very hard.
Yeah, I know.
Yeah.
You want to pop a champagne like, "Hey, I made it." And then you can
Goodbye [clears throat] depression virus.
[laughter]
Goodbye depression. Yeah, welcome butterfly whatever virus. Neighbor neighbor virus.
Fat mermaid virus.
[laughter]
Yes. It has So, yeah, all all all in all, I mean, from the fact it's really hard to the fact it's making 300k per day at least.
What good. Yeah.
Perfect. Yeah, and using so
Good good design, good market product fit, everything.
And this is pretty much this is US AppLovin. So, it looks like they are, you know, like
So many concepts.
Yeah, so many concepts and also country wise it's different. It's country wise different because this is US only and if we go obviously, let's say
Can you go to the Japan?
Yeah, that's what I want to do.
I want to see the craziest stuff.
Of course.
See, it's like it's it's different.
Yeah, but they're using also like most of like characters from Wish.
Yes.
that?
Nice. So, this yeah, I mean, honestly great stuff.
Who's that?
Wait. What?
Which? Which? Where?
The Halloween one. I was like, who's who's that in the back?
Yeah, here. Okay.
I'm guessing some some Japanese stuff that I just don't even I understand.
Okay. Whatever. Yep. Good.
Yeah, uh big disclaimer. Don't copy this strategy if you're not from Japan.
Yeah. It's not going to go it's not going to work that well, I guess. On the other hand, if you you know, if you simplify this and you still use the same kind of dragon UA creatives and unfold stuff and make it a little bit more approachable.
Yeah, like if you if you're not aiming for 10% Western like US revenue and like 80% US revenue, you need to change it if you're okay with that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
That's it. There we go. Thank you very much for listening this episode. Please share your comments on the video, join the Slack channel, subscribe on YouTube or Spotify or whatever and that's it. See you next time.

Cell Survivor represents a significant evolution in the mobile survival genre, successfully scaling to approximately $300,000 in daily revenue by blending complex, hardcore progression systems with aggressive monetization tactics. While the user experience is often characterized by a chaotic interface and a steep, punishing difficulty curve, these elements serve to drive engagement through a sophisticated loop of idle rewards and multi-layered gacha mechanics. By prioritizing specific targeting in its snake-style combat and utilizing a sweep system that incentivizes rewarded ad consumption, the game effectively monetizes a dedicated player base that values depth and challenge over intuitive design.
The title’s market dominance, particularly within Japan, is underpinned by a highly effective user acquisition strategy that relies on high-intensity, viral-themed creative assets. Marketing efforts leverage a diverse array of content, ranging from medical-horror imagery and pop-culture crossovers to AI-generated character designs tailored to regional aesthetic preferences. This creative-led approach allows the game to maintain strong performance across both Asian and Western markets, despite the underlying design logic appearing opaque to many observers.
By mirroring successful monetization templates found in titles like Legend of Mushroom while refining the core loop for a more hardcore audience, Cell Survivor has secured its position as the second-largest game in the tower defense segment. Its ability to balance aggressive ad-monetization caps with deep progression systems demonstrates a successful blueprint for scaling mobile titles. Ultimately, the game proves that high-volume, diverse creative strategies—when paired with a deep, rewarding progression structure—can overcome significant onboarding hurdles to achieve sustained commercial success in a competitive global landscape.
