Capcom
Capcom’s consolidated financial results for the six-month period ending September 30, 2019, demonstrate a strategic shift toward high-margin digital sales, resulting in significant profit growth despite a decline in total net sales. The company reported net sales of 37,272 million yen, a 14.0% decrease compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year, primarily attributed to the transition from physical package sales to digital distribution. Conversely, profitability improved substantially, with operating income rising 33.2% to 13,992 million yen, ordinary income increasing 36.0% to 14,002 million yen, and net income attributable to owners of the parent climbing 43.7% to 9,846 million yen.
The Digital Contents business served as the primary driver of this performance, bolstered by the release of Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, which shipped over 2.8 million units, and the continued popularity of catalog titles such as Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5. While the Digital Contents segment saw a 14.7% decline in net sales, its operating income grew by 23.4%. The Arcade Operations segment also contributed positively, with net sales rising 13.3% to 6,233 million yen following the opening of two new locations. The Amusement Equipments segment saw a sharp decline in revenue due to the lack of new model launches, though it achieved a modest return to profitability.
The company maintained its full-year earnings forecast, projecting net sales of 85,000 million yen and operating income of 20,000 million yen. Management continues to prioritize the strengthening of internal development structures, the expansion of the developer workforce, and long-term investments in esports to enhance enterprise value. The financial position remains stable, with total assets reaching 131,377 million yen and a shareholders' equity ratio of 72.9%.
