Square Enix Holdings reported strong financial performance for the first quarter of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027, marking a successful start to the final year of its current medium-term business plan. Consolidated net sales reached ¥78.4 billion, reflecting a year-over-year increase of ¥19.2 billion. Operating income rose by ¥8.0 billion to ¥17.0 billion, while the operating margin improved by 6.5 percentage points to 21.7%. Profit attributable to owners of the parent grew by ¥8.4 billion to ¥13.2 billion. These results represent the highest figures for a first quarter over the past three years.
The Digital Entertainment segment served as the primary growth driver, contributing ¥49.9 billion in net sales and ¥15.5 billion in operating income. The HD Games sub-segment benefited significantly from a multiplatform strategy and robust catalog title sales, bolstered by the announcement of the final installment in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy. Simultaneously, the Smart Devices/PC Browser sub-segment achieved an operating margin of nearly 30%, attributed to a strategic shift toward quality over quantity and improved monetization expertise. The MMO, Amusement, Publication, and Merchandising segments also reported year-over-year growth, demonstrating broad-based operational success.
Despite these positive results, management maintains a cautious outlook regarding the sustainability of current catalog sales growth and the impact of ongoing development costs for upcoming titles like Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold. While first-quarter performance exceeded initial internal projections, the company has opted to keep its full-year guidance unchanged. Future strategy remains focused on maximizing intellectual property value through multiplatform releases, data-driven marketing, and disciplined control of content production accounts to ensure long-term profitability.
