Vietnam's mobile gaming market moderated in Q3 2026, with revenue down 7.9% and downloads down 8.1% quarter over quarter.
Gamota's Q3 2026 Vietnam mobile gaming report finds that the market moderated in the third quarter, with revenue down 7.9% and downloads down 8.1% quarter over quarter, both falling in parallel. The softness was concentrated in September after relatively steady revenue through August, and downloads stepped down each month of Q3 from a June peak. Beneath the topline, performance diverged sharply by subgenre. MMORPG remained the largest revenue category despite declines, while Idle RPG, MOBA, Avatar Life and Farming grew on both revenue and downloads, and several categories added traffic even as their revenue fell. The Top 10 games generated 34.8% of Q3 revenue and 42.7% of downloads, leaving the majority of activity distributed across titles outside the leaders.
The report attributes Q3 momentum to a mix of product refreshes, esports visibility, and time-bound campaign moments. Free Fire MAX, Garena Liên Quân Mobile, and LMHT: Tốc Chiến led revenue among established competitive titles, while Thời Đại Anh Hùng's crossover campaign drove a 119% quarterly download increase. A case study of Giang Hồ Kỳ Ngộ, an Idle RPG released in May 2026, shows only 22.5% of its May–September downloads occurred in Q3, yet Q3 accounted for 59.4% of its revenue, illustrating that acquisition and monetization can peak on different timelines.
On the regulatory side, three decrees took effect in Q3 covering online game operations, personal data protection including children's data, and foreign digital services with conditional local-storage requirements. A draft amendment to Decree 147/2024/ND-CP, not yet in force as of October 2026, proposes reducing 22 of 36 administrative procedures and introducing clearer frameworks for user-generated platforms, esports, and domestic games. The report's strategic guidance centers on selective category choice, post-launch lifecycle planning, and compliance review integrated into product architecture before launch.
