Slovak Game Industry Statistics 2023

The Slovak Game Developers Association provides a comprehensive overview of the domestic video game industry for the 2023 fiscal year, highlighting a period of contraction that mirrors broader global market trends. Following a surge in activity during the pandemic, the industry experienced its first significant downturn, with total annual revenue falling to 70 million EUR from 77.1 million EUR in 2022. This decline is also reflected in the workforce, which decreased from 1,080 to 1,017 employees across 69 active companies.

Despite the overall revenue dip, the industry remains highly concentrated, with the top 10% of companies generating 58.6 million EUR, or 83.5% of the total industry turnover. Geographically, the sector is heavily centralized, with 65% of companies based in Bratislava and its surrounding areas, while 29% are located in Košice and the eastern region. Key industry players include Pixel Federation, QORPO, Nine Rocks Games, Superscale, and STUDIO 727, alongside eastern-based firms such as Inlogic Software and Games Farm.

Operational data indicates that developers released 80 original titles in 2023, while contributing to 157 collaborative projects. There are currently over 310 games in development, with PC remaining the primary target platform at 72.5%, followed by mobile devices, Xbox, and PlayStation. The workforce composition includes 21% women and 9% international developers, with the highest demand for talent concentrated in programming, game design, graphics, and marketing. These findings, compiled by the Slovak Game Developers Association, suggest that while the industry is navigating a challenging global economic climate, smaller entities continue to maintain growth momentum alongside larger, established studios.
