Slovak Game Developers Association
Reduced profitability and cautious investment characterized the year.
The Slovak gaming industry experienced a period of consolidation and moderate decline throughout 2024, mirroring broader global market trends characterized by reduced profitability and cautious investment. Data compiled by the Slovak Game Developers Association indicates that the sector generated a combined turnover of 67.85 million EUR during the year. While the industry remains active, key performance indicators show a contraction in workforce size, which fell to 982 professionals, representing a decrease of 35 employees compared to the previous year.
Market concentration remains a defining feature of the Slovak landscape, as the top 10% of companies accounted for 56.5 million EUR, or 83.2% of the total industry turnover. Despite this disparity, smaller entities continue to maintain a consistent presence within the ecosystem. Geographically, the industry is primarily centered in Bratislava and its surrounding regions, which host 63.7% of all gaming companies, while Košice and eastern Slovakia account for 28.6%.
Operational output in 2024 included the release of 83 original titles and the completion of 178 collaborative projects. Developers currently have over 366 games in active production, with a primary focus on PC platforms, followed by mobile and console markets. The workforce composition reflects a diverse talent pool, with 19.65% women and 11.6% international staff. Despite the overall decline in headcount, the industry faces ongoing recruitment challenges, particularly for specialized roles in programming, game design, graphics, and marketing. These findings underscore a period of stabilization as the industry adjusts to post-pandemic economic realities.
