Riot Games has announced the launch of Liga Republika 2024, an expanded competitive League of Legends circuit for the Philippines. This initiative serves as a direct successor to the 2023 Empyrean Cup, reflecting a strategic effort to scale regional esports engagement. The tournament is designed to encompass participants from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, significantly increasing the total number of competing teams to 384, up from the 256 teams that participated in the previous year’s iteration.
The tournament structure is comprehensive, featuring a hybrid of online and offline stages scheduled throughout the latter half of 2024. Competition begins in May with a Kickoff Invitational for the top eight teams from the 2023 season, followed by public open qualifiers in June and July. These qualifiers will determine the final group stage participants, with the playoffs culminating in a September LAN event. The top eight teams will compete for a total prize pool of ₱1M PHP, equivalent to approximately $17,000 USD.
By formalizing this circuit, Riot Games aims to strengthen the grassroots and professional infrastructure of the Philippine League of Legends scene. The expansion highlights a commitment to fostering regional talent through a structured, multi-stage competitive pathway that bridges the gap between public qualifiers and high-stakes offline finals.
