The Road to Nordic program, facilitated by Gamecity Hamburg, aimed to bolster the international presence of Hamburg-based indie game developers by providing them with a platform at the Nordic Game Conference 2024 in Malmö. Held from May 21 to 24, 2024, the initiative sought to increase visibility for local studios through exhibition opportunities, matchmaking services, and professional networking events.
Four Hamburg-based teams participated in the program: About Cannons + Sparrows, Amberdive Interactive, Pipapo Games, and developer Markus Koepke. These studios utilized a joint booth shared with partners from medianet Games Berlin Brandenburg to showcase their projects. The program provided significant exposure, including participation in the Publishers & Investors Day speed-pitching sessions. Notably, the team behind About Cannons + Sparrows successfully secured a spot in the Spring Pitch Battle on the event's Developer Showcase stage.
Beyond direct developer support, the initiative included broader industry engagement. Project management representatives attended the Games Policy Summit to discuss the future of the games ecosystem, innovation, and support strategies. Furthermore, the program hosted a Germany meets the Nordics reception in collaboration with the association of the German games industry and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. This event served to strengthen ties between German developers and the Nordic games market, fostering international collaboration and networking opportunities with organizations such as WINGS and Game Habitat.
