Gamecity Hamburg
The initiative provides non-repayable grants to startups and studios in Hamburg.
Gamecity Hamburg, an initiative of Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft, has awarded prototype funding to five local game development projects to support the creation of marketable digital games. The program provides non-repayable grants to startups and studios based in Hamburg, with the primary objective of fostering regional innovation and assisting developers in reaching commercial viability.
The selected projects for the 2026 funding round include Manor Cartographer by Pipapo Games (€80,000), Odem by Odd Zeroes (€80,000), Welken by Studio Gutheil (€60,000), Ungradable: Twisted Card Grading by Chasmic Drop Studio (€48,000), and The Wrong Horse by Bird Outside Studio (€40,000). These titles span various genres, including horror, puzzle, roguelike, and murder mystery. The recipients were chosen by an awarding committee comprised of industry experts from prominent Hamburg-based companies and government representatives, who evaluated applicants based on market potential and project quality.
The application process for this round took place between February and March 2026 and incorporated a diversity checklist to assist in the evaluation criteria. Several of the funded studios are alumni of the Games Lift Incubator, highlighting the program's role in the local ecosystem's development pipeline. Following the success of this initial 2026 cohort, Gamecity Hamburg plans to open a second round of prototype funding in the fall of 2026. This initiative remains a core component of Hamburg’s broader strategy to strengthen its position as a key hub for the digital games industry.
