Gamecity Hamburg
This latest round marks the seventh iteration of the program.
Total Supported. Since the inception of the Prototype Funding program in 2020, Gamecity Hamburg has supported the development of 37 individual game prototypes.
Gamecity Hamburg, an initiative of the Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft, has awarded non-repayable prototype funding to six digital game projects to bolster the city’s standing as a premier games development hub. The funding, which provides up to 80,000 euros per project, aims to assist both established companies and emerging start-ups in developing marketable prototypes. This latest round marks the seventh iteration of the program, bringing the total number of supported projects to 37 since the initiative began in 2020.
The selection process was conducted by an awarding committee of industry experts, who evaluated applications based on market potential, innovation, and project quality. The 2025 recipients include a diverse range of genres and developers: NeverLight by Nightless Games (80,000 euros), Pet Universe by Tivola Games (80,000 euros), Space Station Manager by gameXcite (80,000 euros), Unbreachable by Buckfish (70,000 euros), Deep Fog Signals by Symmetry Break Studio (32,000 euros), and Cosmic Run by Zinktank Labs (30,000 euros).
The program maintains a rigorous selection standard, incorporating a diversity checklist introduced in 2024 to assist the committee in its evaluation. Beyond direct financial support, Gamecity Hamburg continues to foster the local ecosystem through its Games Lift Incubator, which provides selected teams with mentorship, coaching, and additional funding. Applications for the next round of prototype funding are scheduled to open in spring 2026, reflecting the organization's ongoing commitment to strengthening the games value chain in Hamburg.
