GDACZ – Czech Game Developers Association
The sector has 178 active studios and maintains a 98 percent export rate, driven by the global success of major titles.
The Czech game industry has solidified its position as a stable, export-oriented powerhouse, with 178 active studios contributing significantly to the national economy. Driven by the global success of major titles such as Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, the sector maintains a remarkable 98 percent export rate. While the industry successfully navigated recent global market volatility, growth remains bifurcated; established veterans and large-scale developers continue to thrive, whereas smaller studios face mounting pressure and a decelerating rate of new startup formation.
The ecosystem is characterized by a diverse range of 124 profiled entities established between 1997 and 2026. These organizations span the full spectrum of the development pipeline, from independent PC and console developers to specialized firms providing VR, audio post-production, localization, and CGI outsourcing. This breadth of expertise allows the industry to remain competitive across multiple platforms, including mobile, simulation, and narrative-driven genres, while fostering a robust network of co-development and support services.
Looking toward the future, the industry is transitioning from a period of organic growth to one of institutionalized support. A pivotal development occurred in 2025 with the integration of video games into the Audiovisual Act and the State Cinematography Fund, providing a formal framework for public investment. This policy shift, combined with the emergence of regional incubators and EU-backed educational initiatives, aims to bridge the gap between academic training and professional practice. By prioritizing the sustainability of mid-sized firms and investing in new talent, the Czech game sector is positioning itself to maintain its status as a vital technological and cultural exporter in an increasingly complex global market.
