Sony is actively working to repair its professional relationship with independent game developers by addressing long-standing grievances regarding platform support and store management. Following widespread criticism from the indie community in mid-2021, the company has initiated a strategic effort to improve communication, enhance discoverability for smaller titles, and modernize its technical infrastructure. These efforts are outlined in the 2021 Global Partner Survey Results, which identify key areas for operational improvement.

The primary focus of these changes involves streamlining communication channels, with reports indicating that response times for developer support tickets have decreased significantly, often dropping from months to within 48 hours. Furthermore, Sony is prioritizing the modernization of its developer toolsets, including documentation and ticketing systems, while providing partners with better data analytics regarding sales, engagement, and promotional performance. To support these initiatives, the company has launched a $10 million fund and is implementing new programs to assist smaller studios with porting their titles to the PlayStation ecosystem.

Despite these advancements, the industry remains cautious, as some structural challenges persist. Developers continue to report difficulties regarding store sales, noting that participation in promotional events remains an invitation-only process controlled by Sony.
