Major League Soccer has partnered with ESL FACEIT Group (EFG) to manage the 2026 eMLS Cup, the league’s premier esports competition featuring EA SPORTS FC. This collaboration aims to professionalize the tournament’s operational and broadcast infrastructure, leveraging EFG’s expertise to engage younger, digitally native audiences. The agreement covers the entire competition lifecycle, from initial qualification phases to the final live studio event.
The tournament structure involves all 30 MLS clubs, each designating a representative player. The process begins with a non-broadcasted Online Swiss Tournament scheduled for March 7–8, 2026, to determine the top eight competitors. These finalists will participate in a two-day residency in Columbus, Ohio, culminating in a live studio broadcast on April 12, 2026. Beyond the eMLS Cup title, the event serves as a critical qualifier for the EA FC World Championship, representing the highest level of competitive play within the EA SPORTS FC Pro circuit.
By centralizing operations under EFG, Major League Soccer seeks to ensure a high-caliber production standard that aligns with the prestige of the MLS brand. This initiative highlights the league's ongoing commitment to esports as a strategic pillar for connecting with younger demographics and providing a pathway for North American players to compete on the global stage.
