The United States gaming market experienced a strong performance in July 2025, with total consumer spending reaching $5.05 billion. This figure represents a 5% increase compared to the same period in the previous year, driven by growth across both software and hardware segments. The data, compiled by analyst Mat Piscatella of Circana, provides a comprehensive overview of the domestic industry’s health during the mid-summer period.
Software sales served as the primary engine for this growth, rising 4% to $4.48 billion. The market saw significant activity from new releases, with EA Sports College Football 26 emerging as the top-selling paid game of the month and securing the third position in year-to-date sales rankings. Other notable new entries in the top 20 list included the EA Sports MVP Bundle, Donkey Kong Bananza, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 + 4, and Grounded 2.
Hardware sales also demonstrated robust momentum, climbing 21% to $384 million. The Nintendo Switch 2 was the standout performer, selling 2 million units across June and July. Notably, the console’s launch sales pace in the U.S. has outpaced that of the original Nintendo Switch by 75%. Conversely, the accessories market saw a slight contraction, with spending falling 8% to $187 million, though the Pro Controller for the Nintendo Switch 2 remained the most sought-after item in that category. These findings reflect a resilient market bolstered by high-profile sports titles and strong consumer interest in new hardware platforms.
