Gamescom 2018: Square Enix Line-up

Square Enix announced an extensive presence at Gamescom 2018 in Cologne, positioning the Japanese publisher, whose German headquarters sit in Hamburg, as a company back in strong form after a period of renewed momentum. The announcement, published on August 8, 2018, is a trade-event preview aimed at highlighting the scale and quality of the company's lineup.

The centerpiece is a booth of more than 1,500 square meters in Hall 9.1 of the Cologne fairgrounds, featuring over 200 playable stations for the publisher's latest titles. Square Enix's portfolio is described as extending beyond its signature Japanese role-playing franchises, Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, to include major Western productions.

Featured games include Kingdom Hearts III, which arrives with two separate demo versions, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, playable ahead of its mid-September release. Also on display are Dragon Quest XI, Just Cause 4 from Sweden's Avalanche Studios, and Final Fantasy XIV Online. The second installment of Life is Strange is noted as making its world premiere at the show.

Beyond the main booth, Square Enix will operate a separate stand in Hall 5.2 selling exclusive merchandise. The company's presence also extends outside the fair itself: the Final Fantasy XIV Eorzean Symphony concert tour stops at the Konzerthaus Dortmund on August 24 and 25, 2018. The coverage is regionally focused on Germany and the Gamescom event, with an emphasis on consumer-facing demos and brand activation.
