The London-based firm terminated its entire staff in late October 2024. Employees announced their job searches on social media.
London-based esports marketing agency Hotdrop Ltd. has entered liquidation, resulting in the immediate termination of its entire staff. The closure was confirmed in late October 2024, marked by employees announcing their job searches on social media. The cessation of operations appears to have been abrupt, as the firm was actively engaged in client-facing projects at industry events, including DreamHack Atlanta and a recent activation in Malta for the ESL FACEIT Group and DHL, as recently as September 2024.
Founded in December 2019 by Heather Dower, Hotdrop specialized in creative marketing for the gaming and esports sectors. Throughout its tenure, the agency maintained a portfolio of high-profile clients, including Epic Games, Activision Blizzard, MSI, and Alpine Esports. Dower, who served as the company’s CEO and majority shareholder, previously held leadership roles within the UK esports ecosystem.
The liquidation follows a pattern of financial instability associated with the firm's leadership. Dower and her husband, Robert Black, were both previously involved with Promod Esports, a tournament organizer that ceased operations and filed for insolvency in November 2023 after laying off its entire staff. The collapse of Hotdrop underscores the ongoing volatility within the esports services sector, where agencies often face significant pressure to maintain profitability while managing complex, high-stakes client activations.
