This represents a 29.8% year-over-year increase for the Finnish studio. Operating profit also saw substantial growth during this period.
Remedy Entertainment has demonstrated significant commercial growth driven by the success of its Control franchise. Financial results from 2020 highlighted a pivotal period for the Finnish studio, which saw annual revenue reach €41.1 million—a 29.8% year-over-year increase—and operating profit climb by 102% to €13.2 million. This performance was largely attributed to the sustained momentum of Control, which surpassed 2 million copies sold following strategic expansions to platforms including Steam, Amazon Luna, and Nintendo Switch.
The studio’s long-term strategy focuses on self-publishing and the cultivation of owned intellectual property. By 2024, the franchise had expanded its reach to over 19 million players and generated €100 million in net revenue. To support the development of the sequel, Control 2, Remedy entered a strategic partnership with Annapurna Pictures. Under this agreement, Annapurna will finance 50% of the production budget, while Remedy retains full ownership of the intellectual property and moves toward a self-publishing model.
This evolution in business operations allows Remedy to transition from traditional co-financing arrangements, such as the 50/50 split used for the original game, toward a structure that grants the studio a greater share of revenue once initial investments are recouped. Furthermore, the partnership facilitates the expansion of the Control and Alan Wake brands into film and television, with Annapurna securing rights to these audiovisual adaptations. As of mid-2024, Control 2 has reached the production readiness stage, marking a critical milestone in the studio’s five-year plan to establish multiple successful, growing game brands.
