Capcom’s consolidated financial results for the six-month period ending September 30, 2012, reflect a period of significant growth driven by strong performance in the digital contents segment. The company reported net sales of 45,538 million yen, representing a 55.7% increase compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year. Operating income surged by 134.2% to 6,515 million yen, while net income rose by 355.1% to 4,125 million yen. These results were bolstered by the successful launch of major titles such as Resident Evil 6 and the strong domestic performance of Dragon’s Dogma.
The digital contents business served as the primary growth engine, generating 34,993 million yen in sales and 5,777 million yen in operating income. This segment benefited from both console software sales and a stable contribution from social games and downloadable content. Conversely, the arcade operations segment faced challenges, recording a 7.0% decline in sales to 5,630 million yen due to the closure of unprofitable locations and a lack of alternative products. The amusement equipment business, however, saw a substantial recovery, moving from an operating loss in the previous year to an operating income of 1,336 million yen.
The financial position remained stable, with total assets reaching 104,891 million yen and a shareholders' equity ratio of 58.1%. The company maintained its original full-year earnings forecast, projecting net sales of 105,000 million yen and net income of 9,800 million yen for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2013. Management noted that these results were achieved despite a challenging global economic environment characterized by the Eurozone crisis and the appreciation of the yen, utilizing mixed-media promotions to enhance brand value across its core software franchises.
