Capcom’s financial results for the six-month period ending September 30, 2024, reveal a significant contraction in key performance metrics compared to the previous year. Net sales fell by 24.7% to ¥56.4 billion, while operating income and net profit declined by 38.7% and 39.6%, respectively. The company attributes this downturn primarily to the absence of major new game releases during the first half of the fiscal year, noting that back catalog titles accounted for 94.6% of total game sales.
Despite these declines, the company maintains a positive outlook for the full fiscal year, targeting a record ¥64 billion in operating profit. This optimism is anchored in the upcoming release of Monster Hunter Wilds, scheduled for February 2025. The strategic importance of this franchise is underscored by current performance data, as Monster Hunter titles occupied the top four spots in the company’s best-selling games list for the period.
Total unit sales for the first half reached 20 million copies, an 11.4% decrease year-over-year. Digital sales remain the dominant distribution channel, representing 93.7% of total units sold, with PC platforms accounting for 54% of that digital volume. While video game revenue experienced a 35% decline, the mobile segment emerged as a growth area, increasing by 33% to reach ¥2 billion. Geographically, the company continues to rely heavily on international markets, which generated 84.6% of total sales.
