The third quarter of 2024 saw a distinct divergence in revenue drivers between the PC and console gaming sectors across the United States and Europe. While sports franchises maintained a firm grip on console market share, the PC landscape was defined by the strong performance of new action-oriented titles. This analysis, conducted by Newzoo, tracks cumulative revenue across six major Western markets: the US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain.
Sports titles emerged as the dominant force in the overall market, with EA Sports College Football 25 leading as the highest-grossing game across both PC and console platforms, accounting for over 18% of the top 10’s total revenue. In total, sports games occupied half of the top 10 revenue spots, including EA Sports FC 25, NBA 2K25, Madden NFL 25, and EA Sports FC 24.
On the PC platform, Black Myth: Wukong secured the top revenue position with a 6.9% market share, successfully dethroning Valorant. Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 also performed strongly, ranking fifth on PC and eighth overall in the combined console and PC charts. Conversely, the console segment remained heavily reliant on sports titles, which accounted for nearly 40% of all console revenue during the quarter. Other notable new releases, such as Star Wars Outlaws, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, and Astro Bot, also made significant contributions to the quarterly revenue landscape. These findings highlight a market where established sports franchises provide consistent, high-volume revenue, while major new releases drive significant, concentrated spikes in PC engagement.
