The decline in competitive talent has prompted Berlin International Gaming (BIG) to launch a new development initiative.
Berlin International Gaming (BIG) has introduced a new talent development initiative, BIG SELECTA, designed to cultivate the next generation of professional esports players in Germany. The program addresses a perceived decline in the country’s competitive talent pool, which has thinned significantly since the early 2000s. By providing structured support, the organization aims to foster a more robust pipeline of skilled players rather than focusing solely on the development of a single dominant team.
The program offers participants a comprehensive suite of resources, including professional coaching, intensive training workshops, personalized development plans, and media training. Exceptional participants receive additional mentorship from BIG’s established professional players, coaches, and management staff. Furthermore, the initiative provides financial support and organizes regular boot camps and events to facilitate skill acquisition. While the program currently focuses exclusively on Counter-Strike 2, there are stated intentions to expand into other competitive titles in the future.
Participation in BIG SELECTA is designed to be flexible, allowing members to pursue opportunities with external clubs while benefiting from the organization's guidance. This collaborative approach is intended to strengthen the broader German esports ecosystem. The initiative’s launch was marked by the introduction of a dedicated talent team, which is scheduled to compete in the DACH CS Masters. By establishing these foundational structures, the organization seeks to professionalize the development process and help young gamers reach their full potential within the competitive landscape.
