Top Grossing Mobile Games Worldwide: June 2022

The global mobile gaming market experienced a contraction in June 2022, generating approximately $6.4 billion in gross player spending across the Apple App Store and Google Play. This figure represents a 10 percent year-over-year decline. The United States remained the leading market for mobile game revenue, accounting for 28.4 percent of global spending, followed by Japan at 19.3 percent and China at 18.7 percent. These estimates are derived from the Store Intelligence platform and exclude revenue from third-party Android marketplaces.

Tencent’s Honor of Kings maintained its position as the top-grossing mobile game worldwide, earning $238.2 million, with the vast majority of its revenue originating from China. Genshin Impact followed as the second-highest earner, generating $154 million and demonstrating significant year-over-year growth of 58.5 percent. Other notable performers in the top five included PUBG Mobile, Pokémon GO, and Candy Crush Saga.

Pokémon GO experienced a notable surge in performance during June 2022, recording its best month of the year with $110.2 million in revenue. This 58 percent increase over May 2022 was largely driven by the global Pokémon GO Fest event held in early June, which incentivized in-game ticket purchases. The data highlights the continued influence of live-service events and regional market concentration on the overall financial health of the mobile gaming industry during this period.
