This was the first new title to penetrate the elite revenue tier since June 2018. Brawl Stars grossed more than $50 million during the month.
The mobile gaming landscape in January 2019 was characterized by the notable entry of Supercell’s Brawl Stars into the global top 10 revenue rankings. This milestone marked the first time since June 2018 that a new title successfully penetrated the elite revenue tier, with the game grossing over $50 million during the month. While Brawl Stars secured the 10th position overall and ranked 8th on Google Play, the remainder of the top 10 revenue list consisted of established, long-standing titles. Other games, such as Candy Crush Saga, Lineage M, and Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle, also saw improved performance rankings during this period.
In terms of global download volume, the market saw significant activity from new hyper-casual and puzzle titles. Color Bump 3D, developed by 101 Digital, debuted at the number one spot for overall downloads. Additionally, Playgendary’s puzzle game Polysphere entered the top 10 at number nine, achieving the second-highest download ranking on the Apple App Store.
These findings are based on Store Intelligence data, which tracks global mobile game performance across the Apple App Store and Google Play. The analysis covers the month of January 2019 and excludes data from third-party Android marketplaces. Download metrics are calculated based on unique first-time installs per account, excluding re-installs, updates, and multi-device downloads. The data highlights a market where, while revenue rankings remain dominated by incumbent titles, new releases continue to capture significant user interest and download volume.
