Starbreeze’s 2024 financial results reveal a significant contraction in revenue, primarily driven by the absence of major new releases compared to the previous year. The company reported net revenue of SEK 185.9 million ($17.3 million), representing a 3.4-fold decline from 2023. Consequently, the studio shifted from a profit of SEK 207.6 million in 2023 to a net loss of SEK 199.3 million ($18.6 million) for the 2024 fiscal year.
Despite the overall downturn, the company’s third-party publishing segment emerged as a key growth driver, with revenue increasing by 220% to SEK 47.7 million. This success validates the studio’s strategic pivot toward diversifying its portfolio through external partnerships. While core titles like Payday 3 and Payday 2 experienced sharp year-over-year revenue declines of 82.6% and 70% respectively, the Payday franchise remains the central pillar of the company’s long-term operational strategy.
Looking ahead, Starbreeze is focusing on stabilizing its business model by expanding its intellectual property through licensing, work-for-hire contracts—such as its collaboration with Krafton—and the development of new projects like the Dungeons & Dragons-based Project Baxter. With a workforce of 189 employees and a portfolio reaching 546.5 million monthly active users as of December 2024, the company aims to leverage its current cash position to transition into a sustainable multi-title studio. Management remains optimistic that ongoing projects and a balanced risk profile will facilitate recovery and value creation in 2025.
