Keiichiro Toyama, creator of Silent Hill, established the independent studio with Junya Okura and Kazunobu Sato. This move followed Toyama's departure from Sony’s Japan Studio.
Bokeh Game Studio was established in Tokyo on August 13, 2020, by a trio of prominent industry veterans: Keiichiro Toyama, known for his work on the Silent Hill, Siren, and Gravity Rush franchises; Junya Okura; and Kazunobu Sato. Following Toyama’s departure from Sony’s Japan Studio, the founders formed the independent entity to regain the creative freedom and improvisational atmosphere they experienced earlier in their careers. Toyama serves as CEO and creative director, while Sato and Okura hold the roles of COO and CTO, respectively.
The studio’s primary objective is to develop a new intellectual property that aligns with the horror-themed sensibilities of the founders' previous work. While specific details regarding their debut project remain limited, early concept art suggests a tone consistent with the Silent Hill and Siren series. The team intends to recruit former colleagues to bolster their development capabilities, aiming for a multi-platform release on PC and consoles within a two-to-three-year development cycle.
Although the studio is operating independently, the founders intend to maintain positive professional relationships with Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan. This approach leaves open the possibility of future collaborations on existing Sony-owned properties as a third-party developer. The formation of the studio represents a significant shift for these creators, moving from large-scale corporate environments to an independent model focused on prioritizing creative output and fan expectations.
