This global qualification program is the primary pathway for competitors to reach the 2026 Esports World Cup. The program aims to provide a predictable framework for the industry.
The Esports World Cup Foundation has officially launched the "Road to EWC 2026," a comprehensive global qualification program designed to funnel competitors into the Esports World Cup 2026, scheduled to take place in Riyadh from July 6 to August 23, 2026. The initiative establishes a structured, season-long pathway that integrates grassroots, online, and professional competition levels into a unified global calendar.
The program encompasses more than 230 qualifying tournaments across major international regions. These events are integrated into existing ecosystems managed by game publishers and third-party organizers, covering a diverse array of competitive titles including League of Legends, Valorant, Call of Duty, Rocket League, and various fighting games. In addition to professional circuits, the foundation has implemented open online pathways for grassroots players in specific titles such as Dota 2, Teamfight Tactics, and Call of Duty: Warzone.
The primary objective of this initiative is to provide the esports industry with a predictable framework for planning, resource allocation, and ecosystem alignment. By standardizing the qualification process, the foundation aims to foster a more sustainable and inclusive global competitive environment. While the program is positioned as a significant development for the professionalization of the sport, it continues to face scrutiny from international human rights organizations regarding the broader context of Saudi-backed esports investments.
