PUBG Mobile: 100 Million Gross Revenue and 225 Million Downloads

Tencent’s PUBG Mobile achieved significant commercial milestones in 2018, reaching 100 million dollars in gross revenue and 225 million total downloads across global markets. The analysis, based on store intelligence data from Apple’s App Store and Google Play, highlights the game's rapid monetization following the introduction of in-app purchases in mid-April 2018. It took the title fewer than 200 days to reach the 100 million dollar revenue threshold, a pace slower than competitors like Fortnite and Knives Out, which reached the same milestone in 90 and 118 days, respectively.

Geographically, the United States emerged as the primary revenue driver, accounting for 25 percent of the game's total earnings. While the game has not yet implemented in-app purchases in China, the region remains the largest user base, contributing 33 percent of the total global downloads. Other significant markets for user acquisition include the United States and India, which represent 11 percent and 8 percent of downloads, respectively.

During the third quarter of 2018, the game generated 66 million dollars in overseas revenue, ranking 31st among all mobile games globally. With its strong download performance, the title secured the 11th position for total downloads across all mobile applications during the same period. These findings underscore the game's status as a dominant force in the battle royale genre, balancing massive user reach with steady, albeit measured, monetization growth.
