A business consortium has unveiled plans for the "London Colosseum," a proposed 25,000-seat arena dedicated to hosting major international esports tournament finals. Located in Stratford’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the project aims to leverage London’s status as a gaming capital to bridge the competitive gaming markets of the Middle and Far East with the United Kingdom. The facility is designed as a multifunctional venue that will also host professional boxing and basketball, with ambitions to serve as the European home for a future London-based NBA franchise.
The development project is being spearheaded by a partnership including Jericho Estates, Peacock Gym, Torch Sports, and CHYBIK + KRISTOF ARCHITECTS. Beyond the primary arena space, the site is planned to integrate a multifunctional tower featuring a hotel, residential units, and community spaces, all constructed with a focus on low-carbon sustainability. Proponents of the project emphasize that the venue is intended to drive significant economic and cultural growth within the UK, and they are currently engaged in active discussions with international investors to secure the necessary support.
The proposal arrives as the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park continues to solidify its reputation as a hub for competitive gaming, building on the legacy of the nearby Copperbox Arena, which has hosted high-profile events for titles such as Apex Legends, Rocket League, and League of Legends. By providing a large-scale, purpose-built environment, the London Colosseum seeks to address the demand for specialized infrastructure capable of supporting the scale of global esports championships.
