PG Connects Helsinki 2016: The winners of the Pocket Jam and Very Big Indie Pitch

okay all right then we good okay is everybody got beer right this is going to have to be more interactive in this so it's not going to work at all so how we doing how are we doing it's better I guess but I feed off energy and pretend love so great we've all got beer thank you very much thanks so much for being here sticking right the end I hope it will be worth your while I think you will we've got safe the finale of three competitions to kind of go through now which run throughout the show and first up is the pocket jam whoo so um yeah it's a brand new addition to show this year it would be the first of many I'm sure I must admit I didn't know what to

expect to do this particularly as the notice period wasn't may be as good as it could have been but um but I was just as a kind of jam virgin I was pretty amazed by what you guys did involved in the in the jam session it's just incredible um I'm even more amazed by by an occasion who put together this whole event really in and she designed this do you like this to like the apron server gets apron okay so i don't know if you want to say something about the about the jam itself because i was running about all over the place you wanna say a little bit but how it worked yeah it was really huge sucks as we had five teams only 30 hours is usually 48 hours so people needed to scope a little and 22 jammers all the five projects are there for you to see and play and yeah it is super great they're looking forward to other pocket gems we have other champs coming also small advertisements so for

instance quantum game Jim coming up in November so please join us in facebook and all the other social media channels and see what other game gems they are from us there's tons of game jams everywhere and you can run your own too that's my message thank you very much just as anybody here how many people here have done a game down before it's just me isn't it in phone okay well enough it's a new trend apparently bomb a little bit behind the the line I wouldn't say try and yes so at all the games that can I saw the super creative and they had all come very different angles on on the theme which was juicy tap I don't know what jus stap means and some of them were quite rude actually um so we had we had kind of platforming pineapples we had dirty alchemists which is a which is a phrase that will stay with me for the rest of my life I think I any opportunity to put that into a sentence i'm going to use we have card game bats had all sorts of things um and

all the games will be on upload is that right to play it's there sorry okay all right and we can we will also say will fall it's your bits there we will fall to thank you mail it several it comes to conference and will include that in to check out and they'll be stories on our site all the entrants worked incredibly hard over the last sort of three hours or so and so what we've decided to do is we're going to give every single one of them a country pass a complimentary passes typical gamer connects london i'd like to work them all up on stage now to get a bit of love so can all the game jammers are still here come on stage please and the organizers on stage come on come on up here leave clear the stage you got lots of space so you got be quicker than that go on the stage you're not lucky the pores going very long so that's good so this is a all our lovely game jammers here they're still here cuz lots of them how much weight can stays take we're about to find out that's good so oh god this is good this is a good photo opportunity

most of you especially the pocket jammers will be sick and tired of hearing my voice I'll try and keep it quiet for you obviously we've had two competitions here we've got the very big indie pitch which will be doing after this one and we've obviously had are in your inaugural VR&E pitch obviously you know if you caught the tail end of Oscars talk you know a lot of the guys here you'll think it's a trend we obviously think it's a trend so we decided to give it its own dedicated VR&E pitch and obviously after this one will be doing it again in London ferrer VR connects our dedicated show that's attached to it but obviously I suppose you're all interested in more in who won rather than the next event so we had 12 great games showcase and we've narrowed it down to the top three now before I announce the top three I'm going to get each of them individually to come up to the stage say a few words on their game so you guys can see the top three and then will they get into what order they came in so first let me invite to the stage code mode on and their game header

goal vr so give them a round of applause guys and they're going to show their game for a bit is there any this is an action game is more skimmer that there is a guy called extra wicks and this go I had some problems while he was playing his national team in the UK and after that he got fired kazeem and in order to gather back his energy and forces he's trying every night in the stadium by playing on himself and he purchased a bulk rowing machine and by this machine is going to Train himself to get back to the team so this game is based on right now on 10 different unique levels in each level you get to

face many different difficulties and obstacles can the aim of the game is by using your head to shoot at the ball and hit the target of that level this is pretty much the game it has also some combo combinations and kind of scoring mechanisms thanks guys so obviously that was just one of the three and next up in our final three we have a members with nemesis perspective to our members I know they were having trouble with a car but they're here you guys skim a round of applause alright so basically our idea in the game is that we have two guys one is playing the little guy there and the other one is playing 2br with a big purple monster

and they're kind of trying to kill each other and yet here you see the boss view okay so the little guys we get the flyer reference quite often so you just try to anything like that alright and here you have the hero hero perspective that and this is that this is the actual gameplay what's going on so so yeah so here again post perspective he's trying to swing his hands give that little pesky hero and yeah oh man i see kappa so thanks guys okay and last up in our top three is a game that I think a lot of people will be quite familiar with but we've got combo breaker and tower studios where they're sociable soccer let's give them

a round of applause guys yeah yeah I don't know what Scooby Do gonna show never seen this oh there you go yeah last year we were diverted from our course of making claims really fast by coming over to the show and running into this game developer called John hair he convinced it would be a great idea that if somebody redo sensible soccer this little-known soccer game the liver has ever heard of this play will we thought it'd be good of fun well what we need took the game after 10 months of development into virtual reality you know we found that it just works bloody well if you didn't have a chance for playing here at this event drop by at our office job via the next room until demo it too we're happy to be here apparently this version is not to be a reason this is

sort of like the original 2d with but we still have the game in our booth for like maybe a couple of minutes of crop I it's a little it's in 3d scan the round of applause guys so obviously these were our top three and obviously there has to be an order and there has to be a winner and there's some good prizes we've obviously got some advertisement credit across our range of sites for the teams to use and we've also got the it's not broken but we've got the dr Indy pitch bar so you know you still get one of these so in third place we have code mode on with header goal so let's give them a round of applause guys

ok ok so that was third place and in second place we've got sociable soccer so if we like to get the guys back up you yeah but obviously there can only be one winner and obviously we've all worked it out now but I can just say honestly it was a really competitive competition and this was actually a really strong game that we all felt the judges were quite unanimous in their decision they were really happy with this concept you know it's a really great co-op party experience with the idea of you now being the boss and battling with others

but yeah I'd like to introduce the guys behind nemesis perspective back to stage to accept the first place for a while award and if we could just get the other two teams back up quickly just to do a group photograph that'd be great Jacob okay just get one from a photo all right let's go move around applause so obviously as he saw this year we did the vr ND pitch and it was a really

exciting competition and it was a great to see all these new VR games and hopefully we look forward to maybe seeing them again a new games at vr connects along with a load of great talks that will be going on the long side pocket gamer connects are hopefully see most of you there but obviously we've been doing the very big indie pitch for years and it's a great competition this year we actually had a massive 37 developers pitch to as it was there quite grueling for the judges which quite a few of them are out there and we had to narrow it down to a top 5 and even that wasn't easy now you you've seen the top 5 outside maybe you've played some of their games you've been voting for them and but you know i'm going to introduce them in a minute to where so they can show you their games on the stage but before that I'd really just like to say thank you to our sponsors you know we've had gameforge we've had amazon who've contributed some of the prizes for the this very big indie pitch and obviously we've had Chillingo and without them it really isn't possible so I first I'd just like to give our sponsors a big round of applause

and but yeah let's get to the top five so first up I'd like to introduce the team behind antidote to come to the stage and present their game a bit if we got the guys here okay hi everyone I'm Matt bond from Scion games and i'm here with Olli from Zion games also shockingly this is antidote antidote it's a tower defense game it's all played underneath a microscope and it's based on real science so we have bacterias coming in from the left and I'm actually controlling this by psychic Thea it's amazing music on building these defenses here blocking the enemies from coming through and I have to admit

I've not actually see in this video so I'm gonna just ad hoc a little bit we have a variety of different enemies coming bacterias viruses and toxins and they all have defenses matching them based on your body so cells with very long esoteric names and the main thing is this is pure entertainment so we've not got any compromises a great tower defense thank you everyone for playing today and yes cheers guys and so getting straight on to the next one we've got crimson pine with drifty chase if I could get the guys to the stage here we go let's give them a round of applause everyone okay we're on I'm max from Kristin pang games and this is the drift EJ's 50 choice is a game about running away from a police after a successful bank robbery using only one finger so this is a very

easy casual casual game with one touch controls when you can drift out and actually to our twist on endless runner general reset and this endless Turner really you can call it it's easy to learn how to master and it's coming to app stores near you in October thank you okay our next up is moral studios with shadow bug rush so once again let's give them a round of applause let's get both of them a round of applause right so we are gross videos and here's our game shut up a crush so basically it's a free-to-play version of shadow back we released earlier its premium iOS and this is like infinite level version of shadow box code sort of our garage so here you go infinite forever in the same

level until you die eventually and you get your score then you can continue the game by watching ad or using the in-game currency and also you can unlock new characters and we saw basically like a new visual characters in the game so you can even choose between 16 different characters inside the game you can also have create the world to get new obstacles and enemies and more like randomness and more difficulties the game eventually and what else that's about it thank you all for playing it's been an awesome QA testing for us we have found a lot of interesting things today cheers thanks guys okay our next up we've got wave 7 games and die fish so as always let's give them a round of applause everyone so hello everybody I'm you ha from where

some against this is Oscar Doyle with us we have a few more see members not here so Harper our game is the best flood control ever and that's what we're aiming for and I have to say to you guys doing these days we see something disturbing we've seen the death of a few thousand fish and therefore some divers and not to mention this office penis but we see many people enjoy this so this is our first playable we're looking to make a release early next year we're gonna have a load some more items into the game and if you think you know what's the metagame in the game we're gonna have toxic waste radiation all this kind of hazardous stuff in the bottom of the sea which you can collect and then make sure those and guess what you do with that you give it to the for efficiency if they mutate so thanks for this this is die fish and wave seven games

and last up we have a mobile games and skid skid storm so let's give a round of applause everyone so hello everyone I'm up from a mobile games skid storm is an old-school top-down racing game me and my friends grew up playing great games like micro machines and death rally and all those and we wanted to reproduce the same feeling on a modern day the devices and modern day environment so here's the result the key featuring skid storm is its online real-time multiplayer we have a skill based matchmaking system and also you can create your own lobbies and play against your friends we have an AI but it's a more of a sideshow and tutorial thing we have a short single-player campaign but this game is really aim to people who have a lot of

experience in racing games and who love racing games and we're not too afraid of friendly competition okay that clute and concludes my presentation thanks guys so there you go there's all the games obviously we've had you guys have been going playing them you've been voting we as judges obviously a big thank you to all the judges who got through that grueling a very big indie pitch and saw some great games it's been narrowed down to a top three and although for this year thanks to amazon or i'm all five of you guys are going to walk away with prizes but obviously we have a top three ana first up and walking away let me check my prize this walking away with one thousand dollars worth of advertisement credit alongside an amazon fire tablet we've got in mobile games with skid storm let's give them a big round of applause guys
