PC and Console Game Sales: Europe April 2024

PC and console game sales in Europe experienced a 6.2% year-on-year decline in April 2024, with 10.5 million games sold, according to GSD data. This downturn is primarily attributed to a quiet release schedule compared to April 2023, which saw major launches like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Dead Island 2. The only new game to enter the Top Ten in April 2024 was Stellar Blade for PS5, debuting at No. 9.

Despite the overall decline, Fallout 4 emerged as the best-selling game of the month, driven by a price cut and the popularity of the Amazon Prime TV series. The PC version alone accounted for over half of its sales. The Fallout franchise demonstrated strong performance, with Fallout 76 at No. 7 and Fallout: New Vegas at No. 10, placing three Fallout titles in the Top Ten. Other notable titles included EA Sports FC 24 at No. 2 and Helldivers 2 at No. 3.

Console hardware sales saw a significant drop of 47% year-on-year across major European markets (excluding the UK and Germany). This decline is linked to a surge in PS5 stock availability in early 2023 and various Nintendo Switch promotions last April, which created a high comparative baseline. Additionally, the current generation consoles (PS5, Xbox Series S/X) are facing a weaker release schedule, and the Nintendo Switch is in its eighth year, contributing to slowing sales. Accessory sales also fell by nearly 17% compared to April last year, though the PS5 DualSense Controller maintained its No. 1 position with a slight month-over-month increase. The GSD data encompasses digital sales from most major publishers across Europe and physical sales in key European markets, with specific geographic coverage varying by segment.
